List-A cricket is coming back to England this season with the first one-day of the Royal London One-Day Cup scheduled to happen between Glamorgan and Warwickshire on 22nd July at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff. Four mare games are scheduled on an inaugural day between Hampshire and Essex, Kent and Durham, Leicestershire and Derbyshire, Yorkshire and Surrey. All games except Kent vs Durham will kick off at 11 am local time.

There was confusion over the viability of this competition as the ECB decided to run it parallel to the ECB’s new tournament - the Hundred. Counties have lost many players to this tournament and with Covid-19 cases have started causing more trouble. Recently a County Championship and 2 vitality Blast games were called off while England had to build a completely new squad to face Pakistan in 3 ODIs series. Further, the Hundred can call county players to feel the spots vacated due to covid-19 cases which made clubs questioning the viability of the Royal One-Day cup. But Tom Harrison from ECB confirmed that there are no plans to draw a red line through. So English fans won’t be missing cricket for a single day for the next few weeks.

 

The last time when both teams battled against each other in the Royal London One-Day Cup, Warwickshire crushed Glamorgan by 9 wickets and 71 balls in hand chasing a target of 180 runs. 6 years later, Cardiff is ready to see the next part of the battle. It's a revenge time for Glamorgan but Warwickshire will do everything in their power to continue the domination.

Kiran Carlson and Glamorgan Management will have a headache finding 11 players to get the game going. With The 100 taking place side by side, Glamorgan might struggle to get the perfect start of the tournament. Carlson is having a balanced season this season. He has amassed 790 runs at an average of 65.83 and 3 centuries. Carlson will have Australian pacers Michael Nesser, and Michael Hogan to take care of the bowling attack. Hamish Rutherford who Glamorgan has signed for Marnus Labuschagne will walk directly into the team to open the innings.

Just before the start Glamorgan have named club stalwart David Harrison their head coach in the One-Day cup. Glamorgan recently signed Hamish Rutherford as a replacement for Marnus Labuschagne who chose to return to Australia to spend time with his family before a busy summer. He was leading the run charts in the Vitality blast with 294 runs in 6 innings. Rutherford has already played for Derbyshire, Essex, and Worcestershire. Kiran Carlson will take the charge of the team as both captain and vice-captain.

Looks like Pieter Malan will be having a huge responsibility on his shoulders as the key players won’t be available. Malan could only play 6 matches this season, but he consistently performed for Warwickshire in the County Championship. This series can prove Oliver Hannon-Dalby’s role in Warwickshire. With 65 wickets in 43 games and 224 wickets in 83 games, Oliver is still remembered as the guy who batted 78 minutes with a broken arm. His death bowler role has once helped Warwickshire to win NatWest T20 Blast. If he brings out a great season for Warwickshire in absence of the main team players, the bears' fans are definitely gonna get him legendary status.

Warwickshire had their share of troubles. Bears’ MVP of this season - Carlos Brathwaite tested positive for Covid. He was on fire in Vitality Blast with 18 wickets in 9 matches at an average of 13.33. Warwickshire is set to miss three more players in their first match against Glamorgan including captain Will Rhodes. Rhodes has been called up to lead ECB XI on Tuesday to play a three-day practise match against India. Batsman Robert Yates and bowler Craig Miles will be joining him at Durham.
