Mumbai Indians who struggled with thier bowling early in the season have managed to reach the qualifier on the back of a brilliant bowling performance against LSG.
Akash Madhwal’s 5 for 5 in the Eliminator included wickets like Prerak Mankad at the top and Ayush Badoni and Pooran in the middle. He has been a great find for MI this season.
Gujarat Titans will be a little concerned about their middle order that has failed to deliver in the last couple of matches. The two back to back wins prior to the loss against CSK in Chepauk featured a century from Gill and a handy knock from the number 3 batsman.
On a slowish pitch that helped spinners, GT fell like a house of cards with no star player in the middle order coming to rescue. They would hope that the Ahmedabad pitch is a belter allowing for easy stroke making.
GT’s bowling attack is far superior than most teams in IPL and they will pose a tough challenge to a star-studded MI lineup.
Hardik Pandya will need to be on his best day as Gujarat Titans face MI at home in another attempt to reach the IPL final. GT were the favourites against CSK in the last game even after the halfway stage.
Pandya will need to deliver with the bat in this all-important game. It was a good decision from the skipper to come in to bat at number 3. But unless he takes the attack to the bowlers, he isn’t doing justice to that position.
Gujarat Titans have better options for that number - Vijay Shankar and Sai Sudharshan. Back to back hundreds from Shubman Gill meant not many balls for the lower middle order to face.
And though GT won back to back matches, Miller and Pandya didn’t get enough match time. That may have affected their rhythm making it difficult to strike against CSK, they need to quickly bounce back.
Hardik and Miller are key players in a run-chase and GT have also brought in Dasun Shanaka, a big-hitting all-rounder from Sri Lanka, adding even more depth to the batting order. Mohammad Shami is in great rhythm with the new ball and can find early breakthroughs against an out-of-form opening pair.
Noor Ahmed and Rashid Khan are also key wicket-takers in this bowling attack. Hardik Pandya has a brilliant overall setup and will go into this match with confidence in front of the home crowd.

There is something about Mumbai Indians and knockout games. They always manage to gain the upper hand and hold their nerves to get across the line.
Rohit Sharma has plenty of experience and can lead even the most inexperienced players to do their best in pressure situations. Akash Madhwal, playing in his 7th IPL match, an Eliminator, picked a fifer that completely destroyed LSG.
MI will be more confident now seeing their bowlers improve as the season approaches its business end. While Piyush Chawla might have hit a purple patch, Jason Behrendorff has done well to bounce back.
The left-arm pacer has been consistent lately in terms of wickets and economy. Jordan would still be a concern for MI given his economy, Rohit has the option of Cameron Green, though he may not give him the full quota.
With the bowling problem solved, MI look very strong and all set to get their hands on another one of those IPL trophies. Suryakumar Yadav and Cameron Green are in great touch in the middle order and have led MI’s comeback more often than not.
Rohit’s lack of form can be a worry for MI but considering the depth of this lineup with Tilak Verma and Nehal Wadhera along with Tim David striking the long ball in the lower order, we reckon MI will be a force to reckon with.
Rohit Sharma (c), Ishan Kishan (wk), Cameron Green, Suryakumar Yadav, Tim David, Tilak Varma, Chris Jordan, Hrithik Shokeen, Piyush Chawla, Jason Behrendorff, Akash Madhwal

The pitch is batting friendly and has seen many high scoring games in this year’s IPL. Pacers have enjoyed bowling here and have found success more often. It will be a clear day in Ahmedabad with a high of 41 degrees Celsius.
The batting first scores are still high at the Motera but chasing has become more difficult in recent matches. The boundaries aren’t as short as at Wankhede and it will take some good hitting to clear the ropes. A 190+ score should be a match-winning total on this venue in a knockout game.
Things seem to have taken a U-turn at Ahmedabad. Teams batting second won the first 3 matches on a great batting pitch but the last 4 matches were won by team batting first. And in 3 of these 4 games, the winning margin was over 30 runs. In such pressure situations like knockout matches, batting first is always a good idea and considering the recent results of both teams, they’re likely to prefer batting first.
Gujarat Titans have a superior bowling attack while MI pack a strong punch with the bat. There is no dearth of talent in the GT batting lineup either but MI have been exceptional in recent games and have the momentum on their side. Toss will play a key role considering the results of the last few matches on this ground. The pacers on both sides are in good touch and it will be a close contest.
There is no easy pick between the two teams, but given the home advantage, and a better bowling attack, Hardik Pandya’s GT will have a slight edge in this contest.
