We are done with the league games in the Indian Premier League 2022, and we have the top two sides the Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals clashing in the 1st Qualifier. Both sides have been on the top of their games. While the Titans won 10 out of the 14 games, they played the Royals and finished with 9 wins. Key players on both sides have been in good form and we expect to see a close contest here.
The two sides had met once earlier in the season and the Titans had registered a massive win which will add to the side’s confidence. It has been a team effort from the Titans this season with most of their players looking in good form. The Royals too have had one of the best seasons in recent years. Both sides would be looking for a direct entry into the final and we expect to see a cracker of a contest here.
It has been a dream season for Hardik Pandya’s side. They have defied all odds in their debut season to finish at the top of the points table. Though the side suffered a massive loss against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in their last game, it was an exception. They have had most of their key players in good form. Pandya has led from the front, and he would look to seal a spot in the finals with a good show here. They had defeated the Royals earlier and the Titans skipper would like his players to draw inspiration from that win.
Wriddhiman Saha has done well in the new role as an opener, and he would look to offer a positive start alongside Shubman Gill in this game. Gill has made more than 400 runs this year. Pandya has been a strong pillar in the middle order and the side would like to see him build partnerships with Matthew Wade. David Miller, Rahul Tewatia, and Rashid Khan have made difference for the side with their big-hitting abilities and the side would look for a good show from them down the order.
Mohammad Shami has gone for runs in the last few games, but he has bowled well and shall need to get early breakthroughs with Pandya as the Royals are strong at the top. Rashid Khan has been at his best and the side would like the magician to outplay the batsmen. Lockie Ferguson, Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore, and Yash Dayal will have to check the flow of runs in the game given the powerful batting line-up they are up against.

Top Bowler – Rashid Khan

Sanju Samson’s side stuck form when it mattered the most to finish second on the points table. The side comes here with a 5- wicket win against the Chennai Super Kings in their last game. This is their first entry into the playoffs since 2015 and Sampson would look to make good use of the momentum here. They had gone down against the Titans earlier and Sampson would like his players to come up with a better performance here.
The side would be slightly worried about Jos Buttler’s drop in form as has made just 63 runs in the last 5 games after making 566 in the first nine. He must offer an electrifying start with Yashasvi Jaiswal. In the middle order Sampson, Devdutt Padikkal, and Ravichandran Aswin have scored runs and they will look to push the scoring rate up. Riyan Parag and Shimron Hetmyer are good hitters, and they will have to come up with big hits in the final overs.
Trent Boult and Prasidh Krishna shall have to make good use of the new ball as their inconsistency has been a worrying point for the side. Yuzvendra Chahal has been the best bowler this season with 26 wickets, and he has to team up with Ashwin and restrict the flow of runs in the middle overs. Obed McCoy would be expected to do well in the role of a 5th bowler as the Titans have big hitters in the lower middle order.
Top Batsman – Jos Buttler
Top Bowler – Yuzvendra Chahal

It is expected to be cloudy in Kolkata on May 24 and there are chances of rain interruptions during the game. Fast bowlers would enjoy the conditions and get the ball to move. It would be challenging for the batsmen, and they have to choose their strokes carefully. The side batting first would be happy to score 170 runs on this wicket.
Eden Gardens, Kolkata is one of the biggest grounds in India with deep boundaries. The wicket is flat and allows batsmen to play their strokes. There is some assistance for the fast bowlers at this ground in the early overs of the game. Spinners do well as the deep boundaries offer them extra protection to experiment with their speed and length.
This will be a fresh wicket where we expect the ball to move a bit in the early overs due to the overcast conditions. Batsmen would have to be watchful, and the conditions are expected to ease in the second innings. It will be a high-pressure contest and the side winning the toss would like to bowl first and have a target score on the board.
It is expected to be a close contest as both sides have shown their class so far. Rajasthan Royals have done well with the bat, but the side would need a good knock from Jos Buttler as runs have dried up for the star opener. Their new ball attack also needs to take the challenge head-on in this game. Gujarat Titans have played like a well-oiled unit. They have had the best finishers in the tournament, and this would give them a slight edge.
