Hampshire will take on Kent at Southampton in the second semi-final. Earlier in the tournament, they had registered a whopping 163-run against Kent and will be looking to continue their domination against them. Kent, however, will be quietly confident. They beat Leicestershire in Quarter Final 1 by 81 runs to progress to the semis with great style.

Hampshire Preview

Hampshire topped their group and have lost just one match this season so far. They have done most things right and have a strong batting and bowling unit.
Tom Prest, their highest run-getter with 402 runs at an average of 50.25, will be looking to stamp his authority in the knockouts as well. Captain and opener Nick Gubbins is their second-highest scorer with 311 runs at 38.87. Toby Albert has been amongst the runs too, collecting 294 runs at 49.

On the bowling front, John Turner has been their best bowler this year, taking 18 wickets at an economy of 5.19. Turner ended up with figures of 5-41 in Hampshire’s last group match against Yorkshire. Medium-pacer Scott Currie has picked up 17 wickets at 5.51.

Hampshire Predicted Playing XI:

Nick Gubbins (c), Ben Brown (wk), Tom Prest, Aneurin Donald, Fletcha Middleton, Toby Albert, Felix Organ, Ian Holland, Scott Currie, Jack Campbell , John Turner

Kent Preview

Kent put up a stellar show in Quarter Final 1. After being asked to bat first, they posted 325-8 on the board and then wrapped up Leicestershire for 244. It was a polished batting performance where three batters scored fifties, with skipper Joe Denly top-scoring with 65 off 51 balls. Denly had been struggling with form and this knock will give him plenty of confidence.

Kent will be counting on Oliver Robinson to produce some of his magic. The No.1 down is their leading run-getter with 396 runs in 8 innings at an average of 56.57. Opener Ben Compton has also been very consistent for them, collecting 378 runs at 47.25.

Kent’s bowling has been decent, but largely dependent on a few players. Off-spinner Hamidullah Qadri is their leading wicket-taker, picking up 12 wickets at an economy of 6. New ball bowler Nathan Gilchrist has been very good too, taking 9 wickets at 6.65. However, Kent’s bowlers can be expensive at times and would need to keep the run flow in check in this knockout match.

Kent Predicted Playing XI:

Ben Compton, Joey Evison, Oliver Robinson (wk), Joe Denly (c), Alex Blake, Darren Stevens, Harry Finch, Grant Stewart, Harry Podmore, Hamidullah Qadri, Nathan Gilchrist

Weather Conditions

The pitch at Southampton this year hasn’t really been too easy for batting. It does offer some movement to the seamers all the way through and spinners also find some help from the surface. The batting side would have to look to preserve their wickets as much as possible as new batters would find it tough to get going,

The weather in Southampton will be pleasant and sunny.

Venue Details

Southampton has proved to be a low-scoring venue this year. The highest team total this season on the venue is Hampshire’s 260-7 off 48.2 overs while chasing a target of 258. The team batting first in this match will be looking to set a target of around 270-280 runs.

Toss: To Bowl

The team chasing has won 2 of the 3 games played here this season. The captain winning the toss is likely to field first.

Hampshire has beaten Kent in all the last 4 games they have played against them, including one this season. They have got most bases covered and have an extremely strong batting unit. Kent will have the confidence of their quarter-final win, but getting past Hampshire will be tough when they are in such great form.

Back Hampshire as the winners of this clash.
