Liam Dawson led the side in absence of James Vince against Surrey, but he wasn’t able to change the side’s fortunes as they went down by 72 runs. Their bowlers failed to take advantage of the conditions and ended by conceding 228 runs. This is the last opportunity for the side to keep hopes for a berth in the quarterfinals alive and Vince who is likely to come back would want a better show from his players.  

Ben McDermott and Nick Gubbins shall need to set up a good opening wicket stand as this has been one of the biggest weaknesses for the side. Vince is an experienced player, and he will have to do well in the middle order with Tom Prest, and Ross Whitely. James Fuller has done well, and he will have an important role to play down the order with Dawson.  

Chris Wood and Liam Dawson must deliver early wickets and do so at good economy rates as they take on a strong batting line-up in this game. Nathan Ellis has bowled well, and he will have to keep the scoring rate under check with Fuller.  Mason Crane and Prest must come up with better spells as the 5th bowler has been a major chink in the armor for the Hawks in the last four games.

Sussex Preview

Ravi Bopara’s side is on a roll as the Sharks won the last game against Middlesex by 5 wickets under the DLS method, their third straight win. They have bowled well in the last few games and Bopara would like his team to improve their performance with the bat. The Sharks’ skipper shall look to exploit the weakness Hampshire has shown and move up on the points table.  

Luke Wright hasn’t been in the best form, and he will look to offer a good start with Tim Seifert who looked good in the last game. Tom Alsop and Alister Orr missed out in the last game, and they shall aim to gain form. Bopara played a match-winning knock against Middlesex and adds strength to the side’s batting with Delray Rawlins and Harrison Ward.  

Their bowlers have done a good job in the last few games. Rawlins and Steven Finn would look to take advantage of the early conditions in this game. Obed McCoy and Tymal Mills bring experience to this attack and good spells would be expected from them. In Bopara and Archie Lenham, the side enjoys variety in the attack.

The skies over Southampton would have cloud cover and there are chances of rains during the game. The wicket has been lively and fast bowlers will see a lot of swing and seam. Batsmen are likely to have trouble against the new ball. A score of 160 runs or more under these conditions would be a good total.

The Rose Bowl, Southampton has been a good venue for the fast bowlers as they have always been able to move the ball. Batsmen who adjust to the conditions and like building their innings have done well at this venue. There isn’t much in this track for the spinners and they have to rely on their variations to do well here.
