India and Australia meet one last time on the latter’s tour of India as both teams eye a series win in Chennai. Starc’s 5-fer coupled with some blistering knocks from the openers helped Australia level the series in the last match.
Rohit Sharma will be backing his bowlers to dominate things in the series decider. The Indian batters failed to put in a good enough score for the spin trio to defend in the last match. Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel can be effective at this venue given the spin-friendly nature of the pitches.
India should be aware of the visitors’ spin-bowling arsenal as well. Adam Zampa is without a doubt, a key wicket-taker, but Ashton Agar could also be crucial with his left-arm orthodox bowling.
Nevertheless, Indian batters are known for their ability to play spin and Australia should stick to their strengths to push India on the back foot once again.
India will not like a series defeat in a World Cup year. And that too when they’re playing their best XI. KL Rahul answered his critics with a match-winning knock in the 1st ODI. The wicket-keeper batsman scored an unbeaten 75 off 91 balls at number 5 after he came in to bat when India were reeling at 16-3.
India lost their top 4 batsmen for just 39 runs in a small run chase of 189 runs. Put to bat first in the second ODI, India lost half of their side for just 49 runs including KL Rahul. Virat Kohli, who scored 31 off 35 balls was the 6th wicket to fall when India had just 71 runs on the board.
It was Mitchell Starc who troubled India’s top and middle order in both matches. Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav were Starc’s prey on two occasions.
As the pitch is expected to assist spinners more, India’s batters can hope for a comeback against Australia’s pace attack. Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja are crucial for a revival in case the top order collapses again.
India is likely to continue playing 3 spinners in the XI. Mohammad Shami and Siraj would lead the pace attack along with Hardik Pandya. There are serious concerns in the batting department. But players are experienced enough to address them and stage a comeback in a must-win game.

Australia were back with a bang in Vizag as they handed the hosts a 10-wicket defeat. The bowlers, particularly Starc, had looked dangerous in the 1st ODI itself. Starc had India reeling at 39-4 and the visitors were on top even after posting a below-par total batting first.
Along with Starc, Mitchell Marsh is also in his best form. He was the top scorer for Australia in the 1st ODI with 81 off 65. He followed it up with another brilliant knock of 66 off 36 balls in the second match.
It will not be an easy outing in Chepauk against a strong spin-bowling attack of the men in blue. Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne will be in key roles in the middle order and need to find their rhythm.
The middle order had failed big time in the opening match of the series. Alex Carey replaced Josh Inglis in the 2nd ODI and is likely to be the choice of the wicket-keeper batsman in the final match as well.
Cameron Green and Marcus Stoinis at 6 and 7 make it a dangerous-looking batting order that can amass a big score or chase down a competitive total.
There is depth in this batting lineup and also variety in the bowling attack. There are many all-rounders who Smith can always turn to when he needs a breakthrough. Adam Zampa will be key with the spin while Starc will be expected to deliver early breakthroughs with the new ball.

The pitch is known to assist the spinners a great deal. Zampa, Kuldeep, and Jadeja will all be keen on getting their hands on the ball. The weather will be mostly sunny with a high of 32 degrees Celsius in Chennai on the match day.
The MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai is the venue for the 3rd and final ODI of the series. The average 1st innings score on this ground is 230 runs from 31 one-day international matches. A 260-270 total will be a match-winning score at this venue.
Teams batting first and second have won 15 matches each on this ground. Both India and Australia have concerns in the batting department. They would not rely on their batters to give them a good enough total to defend and rather would opt to bowl first and restrict the opposition to a par total.
Australia’s tour of India has come to a conclusion with one game remaining. With India winning the Test series, the visitors would be looking to finish the tour with a win in the white-ball format. Smith and co. will be confident after their recent win and the current form of Starc and Mitch Marsh. It will be an exciting contest between two of the best ODI teams in the world. Though India have failed with the bat in the last couple of matches, we reckon the key batters in the middle will bounce back and lead India to a match-winning score. India will start as favourites in our match prediction.
Our prediction is for India to win the match!
