India’s next era of T20 has begun. This new-looking side without the game's legends has already won 2 away series since the T20 World Cup. And they will now play their first home series against a strong and experienced Bangladesh side.

Suryakumar Yadav led India to a 3-0 series win in Sri Lanka. India will miss key players from that series like Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mohammad Siraj, and Axar Patel.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, bring a strong overall squad with their T20 stars like Litton Das, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mustafizur Rahman, and Taskin Ahmed. However, they haven’t been in great touch.

India Preview

India have been unbeaten since their loss to Zimbabwe in their first T20I since the World Cup. They have embarked on a new journey with the young players replacing the big stars of the past.

This series will present opportunities to even more players. Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal are not in the squad. As such, Abhishek Sharma is a strong contender to open the innings. He made a huge name for himself in the recent IPL delivering some brilliant, record-breaking knocks at the top.

Sanju Samson could open alongside Abhishek while skipper Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube can come in at 3 and 4 respectively. Though we will see some young talent in this series, India have the experienced Hardik Pandya and Sanju Samson along with the skipper.

It is a solid-looking batting lineup with many big-hitting players at every position. In the lower middle order, Riyan Parag could deliver the fireworks at the death while Rinku Singh has emerged as a reliable match-finisher in recent times.

In the bowling attack, there is no Siraj or Bumrah in this squad. Arshdeep Singh will be leading the pace attack along with Hardik Pandya and Harshit Rana. India has gone with a lot of spinners in the squad.

In addition to the all-rounder Washington Sundar, India’s bowling attack also features Ravi Bishnoi and Varun Chakravarthy.

Bangladesh Preview

Bangladesh will be playing their first T20I since the T20 World Cup. They will back themselves to put the hosts on the back foot. Not only is the pitch great for a high-scoring T20 game, but Bangladesh also have a strong overall squad that can pose a tough challenge to this Indian team.

India’s got quality bowlers but nothing as threatening as the old Indian team with their regular bowlers. Najmul Hossain Shanto, Litton Das, and Mahmudullah will be the key batters who will be looking to big in this match.

These 3 have plenty of experience and can take on the Indian bowling attack. Tanzid Hasan and Towhid Hridoy are other crucial players in the top 4. 

While neither of them was particularly impressive against India during the World Cup,  Hridoy showed great promise in the middle order against Australia. In the lower middle order, the likes of Jaker Ali, Mahmudullah, and Mahedi Hasan will be leading the attack in the death overs.

Mustafizur Rahman and Shoriful Islam are the key wicket-takers in this side and will be going after India’s key wickets with their left-arm medium pace. In the spin department, Mehidy Hasan Miraz is the one to watch out for.

He’s got a decent record against India in the white-ball format with both bat and ball. There are many bowling options in this squad but considering the nature of the pitch, they will be facing the tough challenge of restricting the Indian side to a gettable total.
