South Africa’s tour of India earlier in June saw the men in blue bounce back after early losses to tie the series 2-2. This time around, with a full-strength squad that will be playing in Australia for the T20 World Cup, India have sealed the 3-match series 2-0.

Virat Kohli who found his form with a hundred in the Asia Cup continues to flourish while Surya Kumar Yadav knows no limits. Surya has scored 3 back-to-back fifties in his last three outings and has scored 793 runs in 2022 at a strike rate of 185.28.

Another big plus for India is KL Rahul scoring at a faster rate at the top. He has scored two half-centuries in this series so far. With the top 4 batters looking in great touch followed by Karthik and Pant down the order, India look in great shape to finish the whitewash.

India survived the Miller scare in the 2nd T20I at Guwahati as the men in blue won by a margin of 16 runs. Deepak Chahar stood out with his 1 for 24 runs spell that also included a maiden over. 

Arshdeep Singh, while being the top wicket-taker for India, was also the most expensive conceding 62 runs in 4 overs. The pressure seems to have gotten to him as the young lad bowled 3 no-balls in his spells. 

India’s batters need to be commended for their brilliant performance against the best SA bowling attack. The opposition had Ngidi, Rabada, and Nortje, some of the best T20 bowlers in the world.  

And yet, the Indian batters went berserk scoring a massive total of 237 runs batting first. Whether it was Rahul, Rohit, or Virat, all of them scored at impressive rates while SKY continued his dominance.

In the bowling attack, Chahar and Arsheep Singh seem to be the top picks for India. While Chahar has been successful in both taking wickets and bowling economically, Singh has managed to deliver timely breakthroughs.

The Proteas will be disappointed with their performance in the last game. Skipper Bavuma who was disheartened after being unsold in the SA20 auctions must have found the answer as to why no franchise was interested in him.

For a target as big as 238 runs in a T20 match, Bavuma’s duck from 7 balls is criminal. Another duck that hurt South Africa in the run chase was that of the experienced middle-order batsman, Rilee Rossouw who’s known for his big-hitting skills.

After being 3 down for 47 in the 7th over, Quinton de Kock had no choice but to adopt a more cautious approach. However, it is not just the batting lineup that is under the scanner. If South Africa concedes such massive total bowling first even with a full-strength bowling attack, it is terrible news for the team ahead of the T20 World Cup.

Rabada and Nortje need to bounce back and put Proteas on top of the game with their bowling effort. Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi are other hopeful options in the SA bowling attack. There is no dearth of talent in this SA T20I setup. From QDK and Markam to Miller and Rossouw, there are many proven match-winners in this squad.

It will be a sunny day in Indore with a high of 32 degrees Celsius. The pitch at the venue offers good bounce and carry and will help the batters play their shots. 

Venue Details

The Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore, Madhya Pradesh will host the 3rd and final T20I of the series. The boundaries are shorter at this venue and that leaves a very small margin of error for the bowlers. India recorded the highest total at this venue in 2017, scoring 260 runs against Sri Lanka led by Rohit Sharma’s 118 off 43 balls. 

Toss: To Bat

The team batting first won one of the only two T20Is played at this venue. Given that it is a batting-friendly pitch, toss may not play a big role. Teams with in-form big-hitting players will manage to chase a target at this ground.
