Indian team enters into this test match with a 1-0 lead after winning the first test match by 203 run margin. The match seemed to move towards a draw after South Africa`s stellar batting performance in the first innings to rack up 431 runs, But quickfire batting from Rohit Sharma & co brought India back into the driver`s seat.

Indian team is slowly becoming an unbeatable giant in their home conditions in the test format with just a lone test loss in the last 4-5 series. South Africa has a poor record in the sub-continental conditions in the last few series. They would take confidence from their batting performance from the first innings.

South Africa needs to perform session after session consistently to put pressure on this strong Indian team. India, on the other hand, will be delighted after their victory in the last match and many players standing up for the team at different junctures. India will look to win the series 2-0 at this venue itself. India is the only team that is yet to lose a point in ICC Championship points table so far with 160 points on top.

India Preview

The Indian team will enter this match as the firm favorites and they have a quality batting and bowling line-up to back it. Rohit Sharma`s twin centuries (176 & 127) and Mayank Agarwal`s double century (215) will be the highlight reel from India`s batting in the last match. Pujara too played a good knock of 80+ runs with good aggressive intent.

Skipper Virat Kohli, Rahane and Ravi Jadeja chipped in with some quick runs in both the innings. India has a very well settled batting line-up with six batsmen, keeper and couple of all-rounders in the form of Ashwin & Jadeja. Ravichandran Ashwin once again proved why is rated as India`s premier spinner with his 7-wicket haul in the first innings. Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja ran through the South African line-up on the final day to wrap up the match in India`s favor.

Shami`s ability to target the stumps and use reverse swing will be a potent weapon in the pace arsenal. South Africa Preview

South Africa team started their batting with three quick wickets on day 2, but Dean Elgar`s marathon knock with featuring crucial partnerships with Skipper Faf Du Plessis and Quinton De Kock took their team to a 400+ total. Dean Elgar (160) and Quinton de Kock (103) scored centuries in the process. In the second innings, wickets fell like nine pins and they eventually were all out for 191-all out. They were reeling at 70/8 before Dane Piedt (56) and Senuran Muthusamy (49*) scored some consolation runs down the order.

South Africa will need to rethink their bowling combination. Dane Piedt and Senuran Muthusamy were attacked with ease by the Indian batsmen. Vern Philander, Kagiso Rabada and Keshav Maharaj bowled some spells but were not able to sustain pressure on Indian batsmen. They might bring an extra seamer in place of spinner depending on the track. Dean Elgar – Elgar batted with grit and determination to score a massive 160 runs in the first innings. He held one end when wickets were tumbling at the other end. His partnership with Faf and De Kock helped South Africa post a big total. Keshav Maharaj – Maharaj is the No.1 spinner of the South African team. He bowled almost 80 overs in the first test and took 5 wickets combined in both the innings. He will be required to play a big role in this match too.

South Africa Predicted Playing XI:

Vernon Philander, Dean Elgar, Faf du Plessis (c), Theunis de Bruyn, Quinton de Kock (wk), Temba Bavuma, Dane Piedt, Aiden Markram, Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj, Senuran Muthusamy

Weather Conditions

All five days of the match have 30 - 40% chances of rain late on the evening especially.

Venue Details

The track is expected to aid the spinners more than the seamers. In the only match played here more than 70% of wickets were taken by spinners. We can expect a first innings score of 350-400 on this pitch. Any score above 200 will be tough to chase here on the fourth innings.

Toss: To Bat

Teams are finding it difficult to chase totals on the fourth innings in the tests. The pitch will be best suited for batting in the first two-three days mainly.

India has been an unbeatable team in their home conditions for the last 5-6 years. They have a top-quality batting and bowling units for all the conditions. South African team lacks quality and experience in the spin department. Their batting too has a lot of players touring India for the first time. South Africa has to perform to their best to beat this Indian team in their home conditions. We expect Indian team to win this match and extend their dominance in the test cricket.

India will win this match and further strengthen their position in ICC Championship table at top.
