India marched to their fourth consecutive home ODI series win after successfully defending 237 runs in the second ODI against West Indies. A meticulous performance by Indian bowlers after an unfamiliar failure in batting saw India registering their 11th consecutive bilateral ODI series win against West Indies. The third and final ODI of the series will be played on 11th February from 1:30 PM local time at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
Nicholas Pooran won the toss and invited hosts to bat first. The decision turned out to be in favor of the West Indies as in form Indian Skipper Rohit Sharma got out in the third over. Odean Smith then took 2 wickets in a single over to restrict India to 43 for the loss of three wickets. KL Rahul and Sutyakumar added 91 runs before Rahul got runout. Deepak Hooda took the score to 237 with the help of lower order. Alzarri Joseph and Odean Smith took two wickets each.
West Indies responded well in the early overs until Prasidh Krishna was brought into the attack. Krishna broke the opening partnership when West Indies was on 32 runs in the 7th over. Poor shot selection from the top and middle-order saw West Indies losing their half-side for 76. Akeal Hossein and Odean Smith showed some resistance at the end to continue the run chase but fell short of 44 runs with four over in hand. Prasidh Krishna impressed stood out with 4 wickets for just 12 runs in his 9 overs including 3 maidens.
It was the hosts’ 11th consecutive ODI series win against the West Indies. West Indies are now on the eighth spot in the points table of 2020-2023 ICC World Cup Super League with 50 points in 14 games. It will be a tough road for them to directly qualify for the ICC World Cup 2023. India are bookies’ favorite for the final game with odds of 1.16.
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma must be happy to register his first series win as a full-time. With the series outcome already decided, he might make changes in the team. India changed their batting lineup by sending Rishabh Pant to open with Sharma. But it failed miserably as Pant got out on a reckless shot once again. They should go back to Ishan Kishan to put a good start and rest Pant for the remaining ODI. Kohli, KL Rahul, and Suryakumar Yadav will be irreplaceable.
Looks like Deepak Chahar and Kuldeep Yadav will be brought back into the squad for Shardul Thakur and Yuzvendra Chahal. In this case, Ravi Bishnoi will get his debut by replacing Washington Sundar. Prasidh Krishna will lead the pace attack with Mohammad Siraj. Krishna is the leading wicket-taker of the series with 6 wickets. Shahrukh Khan and Avesh Khan might get lucky if team management decides to go with 5 changes but the chances look slim to keep the winning run.

West Indies made India sweat to win the second ODI. But it was their batters who let the guards down. A lame show from the top-order followed by poor shot selections from the middle-order is now West Indies Fortey. The T20 approach is what they should get rid of. West Indies skipper Kieron Pollard missed the game because of niggle which saw Nicolas Pooran taking the charge. He will be back for the third game. It is high time for West Indies to bring Nkrumah Bonner in for Brandon King. King has been out of form for a long time. Darren Bravo is another top-order batter who hasn’t been doing well. With Kieron Pollard coming in, West Indies should drop Bravo too instead of a bowler.
Shamarh Brooks will once again have the burden to strengthen the middle order. The right-handed batsman scored 44 runs in the second ODI to keep the runs flowing. Nicholas Pooran hasn’t played a reliable knock for a while. He has 36 runs in his last 6 innings. But the visitors don’t have an option to drop him from the squad. Jason Holder had a one-off game with the bat. But his all-rounder ability might help West Indies avoid a whitewash.
West Indies bowlers should get 10 out of 10 for their efforts. Odeon Smith and Alzarri Joseph took two wickets each at a collective economy of less than four. It will be harsh for them to get excluded from the team sheet. Akeal Hosein has been impressive so far with the ball. If he gets Haydon Walsh Jr. instead of Fabian Allen on the other end, West Indies can put a solid spin show against India.
Key Players: Shai Hope, Odeon Smith, Shamarh Brooks
Kieron Pollard (C), Fabian Allen, Nkrumah Bonner, Shamarh Brooks, Jason Holder, Shai Hope, Akeal Hosein, Kemar Roach, Nicholas Pooran, Alzarri Joseph, Odean Smith.

It will be sunny weather with The temperature ranging between 29°C and 14°C. The Ahmedabad pitch is bowling-friendly. The first game saw an assist to the spinners while the second one helped the pacers with some extra bounce. The windy weather will help pacers swing the ball either way.
The Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad will host the third ODI. The Stadium has a capacity to accommodate more than 1,10,000 spectators. The venue has hosted 23 ODIs so far.
The toss has favored both sides with equal favorable outcomes. In 23 ODIs team batting first has won 12 times (1 better than the team chasing). A team winning the toss should bat first.
The Indian team is in complete control of the ODI format at home. Their both batting and bowling ends are performing well. It was a bit scary to set the target of just 238 runs. But defending it clearly shows the lack of temperament from the West Indies side. They are struggling in the ODI format for a while now and has just one victory against India in the last 10 games.
We predict that India will defeat West Indies.
