Tournament: England Women tour of India, 2019 | Format: T20 International | Venue: Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati | Toss: To Bat
Bet NowThe guests seemed like a completely different side in the shortest format of the game in the first T20 international of the three-match series. England now have two consecutive wins in the series as they won the last ODI of the 3-match ODI series. The second T20I will be played at the same venue on the 7th of March 2019.
Change of venue and format proved beneficial for the England Women as they defeated the India counterpart by a huge margin of 41 runs. England openers set the game for the late charge which was provided by the captain Knight.
India women, on the other hand, failed at the top and the frail middle order failed to make an impact. It will be interesting to see what change of tactics the hosts apply to level the series.
With the loss in the first T20I against England Women at Guwahati, India Women have now lost 4 consecutive T20I and their 3rd loss to England in last 4 head to head encounters in the last two years.
Winning the toss bowling first, India stared of badly conceding 89 runs in the 12th over before they could pick their first wicket. India could not stop the juggernaut as England built on the strong foundation to get to 160 losing just 4 wickets thanks to a quickfire 40 by the captain Heather Knight. Shikha Pandey and Poonam Yadav bowled economically whereas Radha Yadav got a couple of wickets. In the chase, failure of top 4 batters so far behind in the game that they never looked like getting over the line.
In the absence of Jhulan Goswami, who topped the ODI rankings recently, India’s seam attack looked toothless. It will be interesting to see what tactical change newly appointed captain Smriti Mandhana makes to come back in the series.

England looked like world beaters in the first T20 international against India. It was a complete performance where the openers set the game for the middle order to build upon. Bowlers had a good day in the field too that resulted in a massive win against the hosts by 41 runs.
England lost a good toss and were asked to bat first. Daniel Wyatt and Tammy Beaumont got going immediately and put on 89 for the first wicket. More importantly at a brisk pace. Captain Heather Knight at the back end of the innings provided the momentum with 40 of 20 balls to help England close on 160 by the 20 overs. Burnt and Smith broke the back of India’s chase to have them 23 for 3 by the 4th over.
England did not ever allow India Women to come back in the game. England tried 6 bowlers in the process and all did well against the Indian middle order that looked like crawling all the time. England would be hoping to close the series in the second T20I.
Heather Knight(c), Tammy Beaumont, Katherine Brunt, Alex Hartley, Nat Sciver, Anya Shrubsole, Lauren Winfield, Danielle Wyatt, Sophia Dunkley, Kate Cross, Linsey Smith.

The pitch looked good to bat on in the first T20 international at Guwahati as England Women put up a big score batting first. The pitch might have got slower in the second half but not so much.
The team winning the Toss should opt to Bat first here and look to post as many runs possible for the opposition to chase in slightly slowing conditions.
India Women need to quickly figure out how they are going to go about their T20 cricket. There is a big difference in the way they go about their ODI and T20I cricket. There is exciting batting talent at the top for India Women as well, but they seem to not find it easy performing in the T20 internationals as per the recent records. England Women, on the other hand, would like to build on their T20 form to seal the series in the second match.
Thus, our prediction is that the England Women will seal the series with a win in Guwahati in the second T20 international against India Women.
