It has been a miserable home series for India Women. In all the games barring one across the two formats they haven’t been able to put South Africans on the dock. In the last game the side failed to defend 9 runs off the last over to lose the game by 6 wickets. With this loss they have surrendered the series as well and shall look to salvage some pride by winning the last game. 

The problem for India Women has been their bowling attack that hasn’t been able to put the opponents under pressure in the series so far. With their pride hurt it would be a big challenge for them to finish with a win. The South Africans are in great form and shall look to carry the momentum into the next game and whitewash the hosts.

Smriti Mandhana would be upset with the way her bowlers allowed the South Africans to chase down a steep total on a challenging wicket. They have just not been able to trouble the visitors in this series. As they pull down curtains on what has been a bad show by the side at home the Indian skipper would be looking for a face saving win. 

Openers Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana need to offer an explosive start to the side as they have lost early wickets in most games. Jemimah Rodrigues must score at a quicker pace here. Richa Ghosh and Harleen Doel played well in the last game and shall carry the confidence forward. Arundhati Reddy and Deepti Sharma will have to come up with good contributions down the order for the side to win.  

Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Reddy have failed to trouble the batters with the new ball and they have to come up with an improved show for the side to win here. The team would look up to Deepti Sharma and Radha Yadav to bowl tight spells in this game. Doel and Simran Bahadur have been expensive and the side would need tighter spells from them.

South Africa Women Preview

It has been a very impressive tour for Suné Luus’s side and after their triumph in the ODI series they have now won the T20 series in two straight games. They have hurt India’s confidence and as the side plays the last game on the tour the South African skipper would want to end it on a perfect note by taking it 3-0.  

Openers Lizelle Lee and Anne Bosch have scored runs in the last two games and shall look to offer a strong opening stand here. The middle order is looking in great flow at the moment with Luus and Laura Wolvaardt scoring runs for them. In Marizanne Kapp, Lara Goodall and Nadine de Klerk they gave good hitters of the ball down the order and shall look to finish the innings in style. 

Shabnim Ismail has provided good start to the side right through the tour with the new ball and shall look to do the same in company of Nonkululeko Mlaba. Bosch and Ayabonga Khaka too have bowled tight lines and shall need to carry on with the same flow. Nadine de Klerk and Luus were expensvive in the last game and shall focus in stopping the flow of runs here.

The skies would be slightly overcast over Lucknow on March 23 but we should have a good game on our hands. It would be difficult for the batters given the slowness we have seen in the surface. Any score in excess of 150 runs would be defendable with good bowling.

Venue Details

Atal Bihari Vajpayee International Cricket Stadium, Lucknow is a good venue for T20 cricket offering something for the batters as well as bowlers. Batters have to play patiently on this surface. Fast bowlers have done well here with the new ball and spinners get their rewards as the odd ball can turn sharply on this surface.

We are seeing a trend in T20 cricket where most teams prefer chasing the score and with the wicket being slow here it seems a good idea. In both the games so far the side chasing the score has won the game and hence the two captains shouldn’t have any doubts in their minds at the toss.
