Ireland have stormed to the top of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Europe Region Qualifier table with three wins from three games. They have six points in their kitty and a net run rate of 3.119. Ireland are the clear frontrunner to secure one of the two available spots for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 from this qualifer. Their next clash is against Jersey on July 24 at Goldenacre in Edinburgh. Jersey have done well in this tournament – they are in 3rd place on the table, behind only Scotland, with 2 points and a net run rate of 0.821. It will, however, take something extraordinary from them to get past Ireland.
Ireland were expected to dominate the T20 World Cup Europe Region Qualifier, and they haven’t disappointed. After beating Italy and Denmark, they crushed Austria by 128 runs in their latest league encounter, After being asked to bat first, Ireland posted a massive 226-4 on the board and then bowled Austria for just 98. Lorcan Tucker top-scored with a sublime 94 off 51 balls, while opener Ross Adair provided a good start with his 46 off 24 balls.
Paul Stirling hasn’t gotten going in the tournament yet, but we are backing the experienced batter to make a substantial contribution in this game.
Another batter who can make an impact in is Harry Tector (194 runs from the last 10 matches at a strike rate of 109). Batting at No. 4, he’s expected to hold the middle order together while the others score quickly.
Ireland’s bowlers have been on the mark throughout this series. Fast bowler Mark Adair’s spell of 4-13 broke Austria’s back in the previous game. He is now the leading wicket-taker in the tournament with 10 scalps at an economy of just 5.82. Another bowler to watch out for is Josh Little, who has 4 wickets in 3 games at an economy of 6.66.

Jersey started their tournament with a commanding win over Austria, but since then they have lost two games on the trot. Their last match was against Italy, where they fell short by 25 runs in a chase of 184 at Goldenacre. Now they have a bigger task of beating Ireland if they hope to keep their qualification dreams alive.
Jersey do have some in-form batters in their lineup. Nick Greenwood is the team’s top scorer of the tournament with 118 runs at an average of 59. He will be main man for Jersey in this match and we think he will put up a good show.
Middle order batter Jonty Jenner has also impressed, scoring 78 runs in 3 matches at an average of 39 and a strike rate of 162.50. A quickfire cameo from him in this match can be mighty useful for the team.
When it comes to bowling, captain Charles Perchard has truly stood out, managing to secure an impressive 7 wickets in just 3 matches, at an outstanding average of 13.57. We also think that leg-spinner Benjamin Ward (5 wickets in 3 matches at an average of 16.39). He will be especially useful for keeping things tight and holding one end up.

The pitch at Goldenacre is a balanced surface, which offers something to both bowlers and batters. Seamers will find help here at the start but the pitch will get better for batting as the match progresses. Jersey’s batters, particularly, will have to be wary of the Irish new ball bowlers. They are well used to these conditions and will make the ball talk in the first few overs
The weather in Edinburgh during the match is expected to be partly cloudy and cool.
The average score batting first at Goldenacre is 164. It drops down to 115 in the second innings. The highest total posted at the venue is 234-5 by Scotland against Germany in this tournament. The team batting first must look to set a total of around 170-180 runs.
Out of the four matches played at Goldenacre in this tournament, three have been won by the team batting first. This clearly indicates that this venue favors the side batting first. The team winning this toss in this game is hence likely to bat first.
This will only be the third T20I between Ireland and Jersey. Ireland have won both previous encounters and are overwhelming favorites to win this clash. Jersey do have a few good batters in their lineup, but they are likely to struggle against the Irish quicks. The only way they can run Ireland close is if their bowlers keep their batters under a leash with tight lines and regular wickets. However, we don’t see that happening and believe that an in-form Ireland should trump Jersey with ease.
Ireland are favorites to win this match.
