Tournament: Ireland vs South Africa 2021 | Format: T20 | Venue: The Village - Malahide Cricket Club Ground, Dublin, Ireland | Toss: To Bowl
Bet NowIreland will face South Africa in the three-match T20I series, starting in Dublin from Monday.
The series is expected to be an exciting one as both teams were recently included in the three-match ODI series which ended in a 1-1 stalemate, where the opening game was washed out.
Therefore, both team managements will be optimistic about coming into the series and will hope that players will continue their impressive run in the shorter format as well.
The series will be a historic one for both teams as it will be the very first time when they will compete in the shortest format of the game.
However, the home team will be optimistic of a good showing because, over the last two years, they’ve been far more productive in T20 cricket compared to the Proteas as they secured 11 wins in 21 matches whereas the visitors in the series won just eight out of 23 fixtures.
Despite suffering a defeat in the third ODI by 70 runs, Ireland are likely to go ahead with pretty much the same combination for the T20Is to the ones who did well against South Africa in the 50-over format.
The return of veteran all-rounder Kevin O’Brien will be a major boost for the home team. The 37-year-old did not feature in the ODIs as he has announced retirement from the format earlier this year.
In the batting department, the hosts will be relying on the likes of captain Andy Balbirnie, O’Brien, top-order batsman Paul Stirling, middle-order batsman Harry Tector and all-rounders George Dockrell along with Simi Singh to score the bulk of the runs and give the bowlers something to bowl with.
On the bowling front, the onus will be on the likes of pacers Mark Adair, Josh Little, Craig Young along with the spin duo of Singh and Dockrell to produce timely breakthroughs.

Despite avoiding an embarrassing ODI series defeat, South Africa are likely to try their bench strength in the upcoming series.
The team management will not be pleased with the performance of the players in the two 50-over matches where Ireland managed to give them a real fight.
In the batting department, the visitors will be relying on the likes of in-form opening batsman Janneman Malan, veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock, top-order batter Rassie van der Dussen and explosive left-hander David Miller to score the bulk of the runs and put the opposition under pressure.
On the bowling front, the onus will be on the likes of pacers Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi, Dwaine Pretorius along with the spin trio of Tabraiz Shamsi, George Linde and Keshav Maharaj to dismantle the opposition’s batting lineup.

The wicket prepared for the one-dayers were excellent for batting. The curatror will certainly prepare wickets that will favour the batting units. The weather forecast for Monday is expected to be clear skies.
Ireland will be looking to make amends for their poor record at the venue in the T20 format.
The side that wins the toss, would bat first and post a competitive score on the board. Average first innings score at The Village is around 160 runs.
The ODI series came as a bit of a surprise for the South Africa team as Ireland once again proved that in home conditions, they are not a pushover.
Despite that, looking at the overall team composition, Proteas seem to have a far solid unit comprised of individual players who can turn the game on its head in a matter of a few overs.
