Japan continued their dominance over Indonesia as Sakurano-Thomas destroyed the opposition with his fifer. A common feature of the batting performances of both teams was the failure of the top order where most of the batsmen scored at less than 100 strike rate.

Indonesia will be eager to turn things around quickly and gain parity in the series. These performances will also affect their form and momentum going into the 2024 T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier.

Both teams will be concerned about their batting performance. Though Japan finished with a par total at this ground, it was only a couple of batsmen made any significant contributions.

Japanese captain Kadowaki-Fleming and number 3 batsman Takahashi will be expected to deliver better performances this time around. For Indonesia, the top-order batsmen Tadarus and Gamanthika will be the ones expected to improve on their previous performance.

Japan Preview

Though he did not play an impressive inning with the bat, Japan skipper Kadowaki-Fleming will be pleased with his team’s overall performance. The fifer from Sakurano-Thomas stole the limelight as Japan restricted the visitors to just 78-9 registering a win by a huge margin. However, other bowlers also shined with impressive spells.

Whether it was the experienced Makoto Taniyama and Ibrahim Takahashi or Declan Mccomb, everyone was economical and made scoring runs difficult for the visiting side.

Alex Patmore, who is known for his quick scoring also got off to a good start but failed to make it big. He is a key player for Japan at number 6 followed by S Ravichandran. The top-order batters need to improve their strike rates if Japan is to continue their dominance at home and seal the series.

Taniyama who used to open the innings for the team was pushed down the order to make way for the young Yamamoto-Lake. The experiment did not work out as expected. Japan would be better off letting Makoto Taniyama open the innings alongside Kadowaki-Fleming.

Japan Predicted Playing XI:

Makoto Taniyama, Kendel Kadowaki-Fleming (c), Reo Sakurano-Thomas, Declan Mccomb, Ryan Drake, Kohei Kubota, Piyush Kumbhare, Alexander Patmore (wk), Sabaorish Ravichandran, Ibrahim Takahashi, Lachlan Yamamoto-Lake

Indonesia Preview

Indonesia introduced a new opener alongside the more experienced all-rounder Anjar Tadarus. However, Agush Priadana was run out soon in the first over itself and the opening stand was just 2 runs. Apart from Guna Artawan who scored 9 off 6 balls at number 9, no other Indonesian batsman had a strike rate of 100 or more.

Most of the strike rates gave an impression of a Test match and not of a T20 international. It is the top order that has delivered for Indonesia in the past and they will be expected to lead the comeback in this 2nd T20I as well.

The new captain, Kadek Gamanthika needs to play a captain’s knock at number 3 while Padmakar Rajaram Surve also has a key role at number 4. Indonesia needs partnerships at the top and in the middle order if they are to change their fortunes and seek parity in the 2nd T20I.

D Hawoe is a key all-rounder who can make the biggest impact on the match for Indonesia. He will be the one to watch out for. While Gamanthika and Tadarus are also good bowling options, they were both expensive in the last match.

However, Indonesia found hope with Maxi Koda who delivered a tight spell of 1 for 17 from 4 overs. There are many concerns in both the batting and bowling departments for Indonesia going into this match. The most important thing is for the senior players to find their form if the visitors are to make a comeback here in Sano.

Indonesia Predicted Playing XI:

Anjar Tadarus, Muhaddis Muhaddis, Kadek Gamantika (c), Ahmad Ramdoni (wk), Wayan Budiarta, Padmakar Surve, Gede Arta, Kirubasankar Ramamoorthy, Danilson Hawoe, Maxi Koda, Arya Pastika

Weather Conditions

The pitch has something for everyone. As seen in the last match, once the batters were set, they could score quickly and play their strokes freely. Rain is expected in Sano on the match day though the weather will clear later.

Venue Details

The Sano International Cricket Ground will be the venue for this match. Teams batting first have an upper hand at this venue. Spinners have an impressive economy at this venue and will be the key players in both teams.

Toss: To Bat

After what happened in the recent T20I, both teams would be eager to opt to bat first on winning the toss. It can be difficult to get going on this surface right away. And if the team loses a few early wickets, they are never getting back in the game in a run chase.

Japan will start with an upper hand in the 2nd T20I carrying the momentum and confidence from the previous game. They’ve got a few reliable batters in the middle and lower order and with a great variety in the bowling attack that features many high-impact players, Japan will start as favorites in our match prediction.

Our prediction is for Japan to win the match
