The first two rounds of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2023 are now done. We now move to the third round from Monday onwards. At the end of the second round, Vidarbha and Hyderabad are at the top of the Group B table. Jharkhand, meanwhile, are in sixth place with one win and one loss. Their next clash is against Meghalaya, who have lost both of their matches.
Jharkhand won their first match against Maharashtra by a comfortable six-wicket margin. However, they lost their next one against Hyderabad by 17 runs. Chasing a target of 298, they put up a solid fight but could reach 280-8 in the end.
There have been a few notable batting performances already by Jharkhand this season, the most incredible being captain Virat Singh’s match-winning 143 off 116 balls in a chase of 356 against Maharashtra.
Saurabh Tiwary has also left a mark with scores of 70 and 78. Vikash Vishal has got two fifties as well, while opener Aryaman Sen impressed with a knock of 63 in the previous game.
In the bowling department, it is fast bowler Telukupalli Ravi Teja who has impressed the most, taking 5 wickets at an average of 26.80. Off-spinner Rohit Rayudu has gone at an average of 19.66 and is also worth watching.

Meghalaya have had a horrible start to their new season, losing their first two games by big margins. They are coming off a 77-run loss against Chhattisgarh in the Dr. Soni Stadium, where they were bowled out for 213 while chasing a target of 291.
So far, Meghalaya’s batters haven’t stepped up at all. Kishan Lyngdoh is their top run-getter with 94 runs in two games at 47. Following him is Larry Sangma, who has managed 68 runs in two games. Lyngdoh and Sangma are the only batters to have made fifties in this edition thus far.
Their bowling has been marginally better, with fast bowlers Dippu Sangma and Akash Choudhary taking 5 and 4 wickets each. But they lack a quality wicket-taking spin bowler in the middle and that’s a weakness other teams will surely exploit.

This is a really good wicket that offers something both for batters and bowlers. While it stays true almost throughout, seamers do get some help off the surface.
The weather will be largely cloudy for most of the game, with some morning showers expected.
The highest total posted at the Dr. Soni Stadium in Jaipur this season is Chhattisgarh’s 290-7 versus Meghalaya. Chhattisgarh won that match by 77 runs. The team batting first here should look to post a total of around 280-290 runs.
Two matches have been played at the Dr. Soni Stadium in Jaipur this season; one has been won by the team batting first and one by the chasing team. We reckon the team winning the toss is likely to bat first.
This is the ideal game for Jharkhand to get those crucial four points and move up the table. Their batting unit is in exceptional form and should be able to dominate Meghalaya’s inexperienced bowling attack. Moreover, Meghalaya’s batters are struggling for form, and it will require a special effort from them to get past Jharkhand
Back Jharkhand to emerge victorious.
