Bet NowMSL2019 starts with a match between the defending Champions Jozi Stars and Runners up Cape Town Blitz of the 2018 season. South African cricket has suffered a huge slump in their cricketing richness off late and is looking forward to MSL to find future stars.
A lot of young players such as Rassie Van Dussen, Anrich Nortje, and Reeza Hendricks caught the eye of the selectors with their impressive performances in MSL2018. Jozi Stars defeated Cape Town Blitz in the finals to clinch the title in 2018. Cape Town Blitz will look to avenge Jozi Stars for their defeat and start the new season with a victory on their first match. Both teams have a new look with a lot of new players and new captains in charge.
Temba Bavuma takes over the captaincy from the Dane Vilas for this season. Jozi Stars have a good number of experienced T20 campaigners such as Chris Gayle, Shoaib Malik, and Dan Christian in the team. Young South African duo of Rassie Van Der Dussen and Reeza Hendricks will be the vital players in their batting set up along with the likes of Gayle, Malik, and Bavuma.
South African speedster Kagiso Rabada, Dane Paterson, and Duanne Olivier will form the pace attack of the team. Simon Harmer and Aaron Phangiso will combine together to shoulder the spin bowling duties for the team. They have a good mix of experience and youth players in their squad this year.
Key Players:
Rassie Van Der Dussen – Dussen has become one of the regular members of the South African team and his exploits with the bat earned him the place in the national set-up. We can expect him to have a good season with the bat this year too.
Kagiso Rabada – Rabada is the No.1 pace bowler for the South Africa team but he looks a bit jaded off late in the international stages. He will look to improve his form with the ball in this tournament and regain confidence going ahead.

Quinton De Kock leads the Cape Town Blitz this year and he is looked at as the future South African skipper in the shorter formats. Asif Ali, Liam Livingstone and Janneman Malan have experience of playing various T20 leagues and will form the batting line-up of the team. All-rounders Sisanda Magala, George Linde and Pakistan’s Mohammed Nawaz will have a big role to play with both bat and ball. They have the best South African pace attack with the likes of Anrich Nortje, Dale Steyn, and Vern Philander in their squad. Wahab Riaz is expected to be available after two games and Moeen Ali is expected to take his place in those matches.
They have great depth in their playing XI with a host of all-rounders in the team.
Key Players:
Quinton De Kock – De Kock scored back-to-back fifties in the two T20Is against India recently. He will have an added responsibility of captaining the team this season. He will hope captaincy will bring the best out of him with the bat too.
Anrich Nortje – Nortje played just 3-4 games in MSL2018 last season but impressed everyone with his raw pace clocking over 145+kmph easily. He will enjoy bowling alongside South African greats such as Steyn and Philander and learn a lot from them.

The weather is expected to sunny and bright with little cloud cover. We have just 20% chances of rain on match day as per the forecast.
Johannesburg is one of the high scoring grounds in the South Africa and it`s smaller dimensions will make the ball sail over the ropes easily. Three out of five matches played last year had first innings total of 200+ runs last season.
Chasing teams have 75% win rate at this venue and teams will be unsure of the safe target at this venue.
Both teams have an excellent batting line-up with a host of T20 star players such as Gayle, Malik, Van Dussen, Hendricks (Jozi Stars) & De Kock, Livingstone, J Malan, Asif Ali (Cape Town Blitz) and they will enjoy batting on this venue. Cape Town Blitz has a slightly better bowling attack when compared to Jozi Stars due to the presence of experienced T20 spinners (Moeen Ali & Mohammed Nawaz). We expect Cape Town Blitz to win this match.
Cape Town Blitz will win the match!
