Kent is eyeing a win to stay alive in the race to the finals. They come back to St Lawrence Ground, Canterbury to take on a well-placed Yorkshire. This is the same ground where Kent had defeated Northamptonshire.

Both teams have a variety in their bowling attack and the performances have been consistent. In their last outing, Kent bowled out Northamptonshire for 210 runs. Whereas, Yorkshire bowled out Essex for 240 in their last match.

However, Yorkshire have been more consistent with their bowling performances while Kent bowling out Northamptonshire for a low total was an exception. In their previous matches, Kent bowlers had conceded over 300 runs.

This match is crucial for both teams. A win here would solidify Yorkshire’s place in the top 4 and take them closer to qualifying for the finals.

Kent Preview

Joe Denly must be disappointed with the result of the last match. It was abandoned due to rain without the toss. They were coming off of a win from Canterbury, which came after three consecutive losses. And it was a great opportunity to take on a struggling Derbyshire.

A washed-out game does dent the flow of things and also the momentum. Nevertheless, Joe Denly and co. have to repeat what they did against Northamptonshire at this ground.  While Yorkshire may have been impressive with the ball, they haven’t been consistent with the bat. And that’s where Kent can get the better of the visitors. Hamidullah Qadri, Joe Denly, Matthew Quinn, and Joey Evison are the ones for this job.

If these bowlers deliver timely breakthroughs, Kent might win the game even with a total of 250 or less on the board. Kent have struggled with the bat and that is a huge concern Denly needs to address at the moment.

It has always been the top 4 to make the most significant contributions to the team total. Joe Denly, Ben Compton, Tawanda Muyeye, and Alex Blake have been decent in their performances. For Kent to turn things around and register a much-needed win here, they need to put a team effort with others like Harry Finch and Joe Evison also stepping up and scoring runs.

Kent Predicted Playing XI:

Joe Denly (c), Ben Compton, Tawanda Muyeye, Oliver Robinson (wk), Alex Blake, Harry Finch, Joey Evison, Hamidullah Qadri, Nathan Gilchrist, Matthew Quinn, Navdeep Saini

Yorkshire Preview

Jonathan Tattersall will be disappointed with how his team failed to chase down 241 runs in the last game after his bowlers dominated the opposition. The captain who scored a fifty in the previous game against Glamorgan was out first ball in the run-chase.

There are some really promising names in the Yorkshire batting lineup. Will Fraine and George Hill in the top 4 are high-impact players who can hit the long ball and play the big innings.

In their game against Worcestershire, Hill scored 130 runs at number 4 to lead Yorkshire to a 4-wicket win chasing a target of 247 runs. There is also the wicket-keeper batsman Harry Duke who is a promising opening batsman and has also made significant contributions in recent outings.

However, the batting performances have been inconsistent and scattered through the lineup. And hence, it does not translate into huge impact innings overall.
Matthew Waite, Matthew Revis, and Jack Shutt are key frontline bowlers for Yorkshire.

These are reliable players who have been consistently delivering breakthroughs and making a dent in the opposition’s batting. They will once again be in the spotlight as Yorkshire takes on Kent in Canterbury.

Yorkshire Predicted Playing XI:

Jonathan Tattersall (c), Harry Duke (wk), Will Fraine, William Luxton, George Hill, Matthew Waite, Matthew Revis, Dominic Bess, Harris Sullivan, Ben Coad, Jack Shutt

Weather Conditions

The weather is expected to be partly cloudy on the match day. The pitch offers help to the bowlers and gets difficult to bat on in the 2nd innings.

Venue Details

Lawrence ground in Canterbury is the venue for this match. The average score batting first in ODIs here is 245 runs.

Toss: To Bat

The last match at this venue was a pretty low-scoring affair with Kent losing 6 wickets on their way to victory. Both teams have their bowlers in form, especially Yorkshire. Chasing will not be easy for either of the teams given their current form and the opposition’s bowling attack. We reckon the team winning the toss would choose to bat first and put runs on the board.

Taking into consideration the strengths and weaknesses of both teams, we think Yorkshire has a slight edge over the hosts. While both teams show promise in their bowling attacks, Kent have delivered only one impressive bowling performance and have struggled with the bat throughout. Yorkshire, on the other hand, might have consistency issues in their batting department, but they’ve always found someone who steps up and delivers for the team.

Our prediction is for Yorkshire to win the match
