After Toss Prediction

GT won the toss and opt to bowl. We are still backing GT to win!

KKR will be confident coming into this match on the back of a win in Bangalore where they made a comeback in every department.

In their last home game, Kolkata had conceded 235 runs against CSK and lost by 49 runs while chasing the total. Jason Roy looks in fine touch and he helped set the stage for a 200-run total at Chinnaswamy.

Gujarat Titans, on the other hand, have the momentum on their side with consistent performances in every department. Abhinav Manohar is a promising batsman in the middle order for GT.

Rahul Tewatia continues to do what he does best in the death overs and is an exciting finisher to watch out for in this game. Gujarat Titans are a lot superior in terms of form and consistency and will have an edge in this match.

Kolkata Knight Riders Preview

KKR have won just one of their 3 home matches so far. They haven’t looked comfortable at the Eden Gardens this season. Nitish Rana will be hoping to avoid a hat-trick of losses at this venue as they face the mighty Titans.

Suyash Sharma, Varun Chakravarthy, and Sunil Narine will be key bowlers for KKR in the spin department. Narine and Sharma have the most promising of all the bowlers in this KKR side this year.

The pacers aren’t in their best touch and Russell’s recent performance against RCB is definitely a ray of hope for the Knight Riders. Jason Roy has scored two back to back fifties and has shown how effective he is as an opener and at number 5 as well.

After his hundred, Venkatesh Iyer’s form has been on a decline. He’s scored 31, 20, and 0 in his last 3 innings and his highest strike rate was 119. N Jagadeesan has been a huge disappointment at the top of the order.

Nitish Rana has shown intent and did get some crucial runs in the last match. He will be an important figure in the middle order. Overall, it has been a hugely inconsistent batting lineup and that makes KKR highly unreliable.

Kolkata Knight Riders Predicted Playing XI:

N Jagadeesan (wk), Jason Roy, Venkatesh Iyer, Nitish Rana (c), Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, David Wiese, Vaibhav Arora, Umesh Yadav, Varun Chakaravarthy

Gujarat Titans Preview

GT seemed to struggle at their home early this season. After their brilliant comeback against LSG defending a total of 135, Gujarat Titans were successful in their very next game at home.

They were up against a strong MI batting lineup and were defending a 207-run total which they had failed to defend on a previous occasion at the same venue.

This time around, Hardik’s men were confident and cleaned through the opposition’s batting order. Hardik Pandya is bowling at 145 km/h consistently and is a key bowler for GT.

The 18-year old left-arm chinaman bowler, Noor Ahmed has shown great promise and is one to watch out for. Mohammad Shami has the biggest impact in the GT bowling attack. His experience and skill gives GT a big advantage.

Shubman Gill and Saha are doing good at the top and while Hardik Pandya is also in fine touch, it is Vijay Shankar, who we reckon, would be a liability for GT if these key batters fail to deliver.

Hardik must be happy with Abhinvav Manohar who came to the party against MI playing some really fine shots against pace. There are the likes of Miller and Tewatia in the lower order who can finish on a high. GT should consider Sai Sudharshan or Srikar Bharat to replace Vijay Shankar.

Gujarat Titans Predicted Playing XI:

Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya (c), Vijay Shankar, David Miller, Abhinav Manohar, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Mohammed Shami, Noor Ahmad, Mohit Sharma

Weather Conditions

It has been a high scoring pitch this season at the Eden Gardens. Historically, there has been little help for spinners on this surface. The ball comes on the bat quite nicely and batters can time their strokes freely. It will be partly cloudy with a high of 36 degrees Celsius in Kolkata on the match day.

Venue Details

The two teams will lock horns at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The boundaries aren’t very long and scoring sixes will not be a huge challenge. The average 1st innings score on this ground is 163 runs but a winning total would be something over 190 runs.

Toss: To Bat

While overall, teams batting second have won 47 of the 82 T20s played on this ground, this season, all the matches were won by team batting first. GT would be comfortable either way given their current form with both bat and ball. For KKR, however, the best decision would be to bat first since they are in no position to chase down a big total.

KKR may have bounced back to avoid a 5th straight loss as they defeated RCB in their last game but they’re still a long way from being a reliable side in this IPL. GT in contrast, have been consistent in every department, and have many match-winning players in their lineup. The home team faces many batting woes and haven’t got any reliable pace bowlers. Overall, Gujarat Titans have a huge edge in this contest and will start as favourites in our match prediction.
