After 70 odd games and over 60 days of cricket, we have our two finalists ready to stake their claim of the ultimate prize: the IPL.
Kolkata Knight Riders stormed into the finals defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad convincingly at Ahmedabad just a few days ago. But here they are, ready for another face-off with the men in Orange in totally different conditions.
Having made a final after three years, Kolkata Knight Riders will be hoping to put up a scintillating display with the bat and ball.
Sunrisers Hyderabad, on the other hand, will be up for the challenge, though. After dismantling Rajasthan Royals in a crunch game in the eliminator, they’ll fancy their chances of getting acclimatized to the conditions in Chennai. Both teams have met each other on 26 occasions, and the men in Purple have had more success with 16 wins to Sunrisers Hyderabad’ 10.
Kolkata Knight Riders last defeat was almost a month ago, and it took an absolute chasing masterclass from Punjab Kings to beat them. They were due to play 6 games in the league stage since, and they ended up winning four matches that had results with two of those matches bearing no result. They blew away Sunrisers Hyderabad in the first Qualifier with a stellar win, and booked their place in the finals.
They’re clear favourites to win the title, given their current form and their depth and versatility in the squad to take advantage of the conditions on offer in Chepauk. Phil Salt’s departure seemed to have tilted the balance of the opening order a little bit, but Rahmanullah Gurbaz is a capable replacement and can combine with Sunil Narine, who’s in the form of his life with the bat, to give KKR a good opening stand. Venkatesh Iyer and Shreyas Iyer have done exceedingly well not just anchoring the innings in the middle phase of the game but finishing with a flourish as well. Andre Russell and Rinku Singh haven’t had much to do with the bat this season, which goes to show how efficient and dependable KKR top and middle order batsmen have been.
With the ball, Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy and Mitchell Starc are in great touch. Harshit Rana and Vaibhav Arora are also chipping in with wickets or keeping things nice and tight in the middle, making other bowlers’ lives a lot easier.
Venkatesh Iyer to score over 23.5 runs 1.85
Bet nowVenkatesh Iyer remained unbeaten on 52 runs in qualifier 1 and powered KKR to the finals. He is the fourth highest run-scorer for KKR this season and is in good form ahead of the final clash against SRH. We predict his score to be over 23.5 runs in today's IPL match.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), Sunil Narine, Venkatesh Iyer, Shreyas Iyer (capt), Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, Ramandeep Singh, Mitch Starc, Vaibhav Arora, Harshit Rana, Varun Chakaravarthy. Impact Player: Manish Pandey.

Sunrisers Hyderabad had no answers to Kolkata Knight Riders in the first qualifier, but they came back with a bang against Rajasthan Royals in the second qualifier.
It wasn’t smooth sailing for the SRH batters who struggled a bit to get used to the conditions on offer in Chennai. Despite losing wickets early and at regular intervals, they kept the scoreboard ticking along and revived well after a major setback in the middle overs to finish with a decent total in the end.
Credit to their bowlers for assessing the conditions well and bowling smartly, they made a fist of that total and got home eventually with 36 runs to seal their spot in the final. Rahul Tripathi has done well in the last two games, although he hasn’t gone on to make a big score. He’ll want to fix that in the big final. Klaasen scrambled to a 50 in an uncharacteristic manner, but his partnership along with Shahbaz Ahmed in the end was instrumental in SRH getting beyond the 170 mark. The batting group took the team home on several occasions during the league stage, but the bowlers stood up in the second qualifier and showed their class.
Natarajan continued his good form while Abhishek, Shahbaz spun a web to fox Rajasthan Royals batsmen. Having brushed aside a top-quality side like RR, they’ll be raring to have a go at KKR batsmen in favourable conditions.
Rahul Tripathi to score over 20.5 runs 1.85
Bet nowSince his inclusion in the playing XI, Rahul Tripathi has been on a blast scoring quickfire knocks. He scored 37, 55 and 33 runs in his last three innings. We are backing Rahul Tripathi to continue his good run of form and score over 20.5 runs in todays contest.
Heinrich Klaasen to score over 21.5 runs 1.85
Bet nowThe saviour for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the qualifier 2 clash against Rajasthan Royals where he scored 50 runs in 34 balls. In his two outings against KKR this season Klaasen has scored 32 and 63 runs. Given his recent form and record against KKR, we back Klaasen to play another match winning knock and score over 21.5 runs.
Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Rahul Tripathi, Aiden Markram, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Heinrich Klaasen (wk), Abdul Samad, Pat Cummins (capt), Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jaydev Unadkat, T Natarajan. Impact Player: Shahbaz Ahmed.

The pitch was a little two-paced on Friday for the second qualifier, but the talk is that the final will see a red soil wicket being served for the two teams. If dew doesn’t roll in and the target is a bit stiff to chase down, the team batting second has an uphill task in front of them. The forecast is clear for the grand finale, and we should have a complete game of cricket without weather interrupting at all.
The big final will be held at the M A Chidambaram stadium in Chennai. Sunrisers Hyderabad have a pretty ordinary record at this venue, having won just 2 of the 11 matches they played here. Kolkata Knight Riders is only slightly better, with 4 wins and 10 losses from 14 games.
Total Aggregate Score over 357.5 runs 1.89
Bet nowThe total average aggregate score at M.A.Chidamabaram stadium this season is 334 runs. The pitch which produced the two high scoring games in the league stage is expected to be used for this final clash. Expect a a balanced track where the total aggregate score is expected to be over 357.5 runs.
Chasing teams have won 5 of 8 encounters here, if that’s an indication. In the three matches where teams were successful in defence, the margins of victory have been huge. Given how the tournament has gone for these two teams. SRH wouldn’t mind batting first and KKR wouldn’t be disappointed chasing either.
Kolkata Knight Riders, who are in some serious touch, will believe their skills are well-suited to these conditions. Having won 2 of the 3 finals they have played in, they’ll fancy their chances.
We are backing Kolkata Knight Riders as winners of this contest.
