It is the 7th match of the Momentum One Day Cup 2019 and Knights will be up against Cape Cobras at Mangaung Oval, Bloemfontein. Cape Cobras did well even in their loss in the last game with their main players having performed well. Knights on the other hand seem to be struggling at the moment having lost their first game and the second one being washed away. 

In the last season of the tournament the sides had pocketed a game each when they played against one another. It’s a new season and both the sides would be eager to register their first win going into the next match.

Knights Preview

Petrus van Biljon’s team is in a spot of bother at the moment. They lost their first game versus Titans while their next game against the Lions was washed away without a ball being bowled. They will have to win the next game to rise up on the points table 

If the performance of the first game is anything to go by Knights batting is struggling. Keegan Petersen did well to make a hundred and Ryan McLarenb also played well but the rest of the batting just folded like a pack of cards. Their scoring rate was very bad in the present day context and they will not only need to score runs but also score at a good rate in the next game. 

All that the bowlers could do in first game was picking a solitary wicket. Ryan McLaren bowled well and Jacques Snyman also bowled decently. But all the other bowlers struggled including Shadley van Schalkwyk and Mbulelo Budaza and it will be interesting to see how they fare in the next game against a strong batting line-up that the Cape Cobras have.

Cape Cobras Preview

Dane Piedt the Cape Cobras’ skipper would surely have been upset over the narrow loss against Warriors in the last game. They nearly ended up defending their score of 277 only to lose it in the last over. The captain would like to put this behind and look forward to the next game. 

Their batsmen did well in the last game especially Kyle Verreynne. Openers Janneman Malan and Pieter Malan also looked in good form and so did Zubayr Hamza. With JP Duminy expected to make a return to the side the batting line-up look exceedingly strong going into this game. They have the firepower to put up a huge score on the board. 

The bowlers did well in the last game especially towards the end of the innings. Jason Smith performed well and so did skipper Piedt. The side would be expecting improved performance from Dane Paterson and Akhona Mnyaka who are the main bowlers for the side and have good experience to trouble the Knights batsmen.

Weather Conditions

Bloemfontein’s weather forecast for February 19 is bright and sunny which is welcome after having seen weather play spoilsport in two games so far this season. It is a fresh wicket which is expected to offer some assistance to the fast bowlers. Batting is expected to become easier as the game progresses and the ball loses its shine.

Mangaung Oval, Bloemfontein has historically been a good surface to bowl on. It is typical South African wicket where bowlers see good bounce and carry with the average first innings score less than 240 runs. Batsmen who work towards building an innings have also been successful at this ground and patience is important for any batsmen her

It is the first match of the season at this ground and there is expected to be some grass on the wicket which shall assist the fast bowlers.
