The Knights would be up against the Cape Cobras in the 20th game of the CSA T20 Challenge 2019. The two sides would play at the Mangaung Oval, Bloemfontein. Cape Cobras lost their last game but look to be in good form with four wins in their six games this season. Knights are yet to open their account as they have suffered losses in three games with the remaining three being washed away by rain.

Knights have a bad record against the Cape Cobras and have lost nine out of the last ten games they have played. Knights would have to play out of their skins to win the next game against the Cape Cobras.

Knights Preview

It was again a washout for Petrus van Biljon’s team in their last game against the Lions. They have had three such games this season and it is getting frustrating. The side has lost the other three games they have played and would be desperate for a win. Their last defeat was also against the Cape Cobras and they would be looking to settle scores.

In the last game Patrick Kruger did well with the bat and Raynard van Tonder also played a decent knock. But the side has been plagued by the poor form this season with most of the other batsmen not living up to the expectations. In the next game, the team would want to see good batting from Petrus van Biljon, Andries Gous, Ryan McLaren and Grant Mokoena.

Tshepo Ntuli and Shadley van Schalkwyk have done well in the bowling department. There has been good support from Ryan McLaren. The side would, however, depend on Gerald Coetzee and Ottniel Baartman to bowl tighter spells as the two have been leaking lot of runs in previous games.

Knights Predicted Playing XI:

Ryan McLaren, Shadley van Schalkwyk, Eddie Leie, Petrus van Biljon (c), Grant Mokoena, Tshepo Ntuli , Patrick Kruger, Andries Gous (wk), Ottniel Baartman, Raynard van Tonder, Gerald Coetzee

Cape Cobras Preview

After a wonderful run that saw them win three back to back games Rory Kleinveldt’s side went down against the Warriors in the last game. The skipper won’t be too upset though as they fought well to lose the game by a small margin. They had won against the Knights earlier in the season and would look to repeat that success.

David Bedingham, Jason Smith and George Linde played well in the last game with the bat with Linde nearly taking them to victory. Hashim Amla's form is worrying but Janneman Malan has done well in the season. The side bats deep with Vernon Philander in the line-up and have the batting firepower to win the next game.

Bowling performance from the side was poor in the last game. Vernon Philander bowled a great spell to pick five wickets. Rory Kleinveldt has bowled well earlier in the season and would be looking to do well in the next game. Tladi Bokako and George Linde shall have to check the flow of runs in the next game for the side to restrict the Knights batsmen.

Cape Cobras Predicted Playing XI:

Hashim Amla, Janneman Malan, David Bedingham, Kyle Verreynne (wk), Jason Smith, Aviwe Mgijima, George Linde, Vernon Philander, Rory Kleinveldt (c), Nkululeko Serame, Tladi Bokako

Weather Conditions

There are predictions for light showers at Bloemfontein on the 22nd of April. The pitch is good for batting, though the bowlers get good assistance from the surface early on. Having seen rains for the last few days the pitch is expected to be on the slower side and a score around 150 should be competitive here.

VENUE

Mangaung Oval, Bloemfontein is a good ground for T20 cricket. The pitch offers early assistance to the bowlers but it eases out as the game progresses. The smaller size of the square boundaries also makes it a high scoring venue as the batsmen can hit the ball over the ropes easily.

Toss: To Bat

It has been a good ground to put up a big score on the board. The smaller size of the ground helps in this cause. The side winning the toss would like to bat first on this surface and would be looking to put up a big score and defend it.

The sides are sitting on the opposite ends of the points table at the moment. While the Cape Cobras have done well so far to win four out of their six games including one against the Knights earlier the latter are yet to register their first win in the season and have looked in bad form. As form currently stands the Cape Cobras would be favorites to win the upcoming game.
