In the 23rd game of the CSA T20 Challenge 2019, the Knights would be up against the Dolphins at the Mangaung Oval, Bloemfontein. It will be a game between the bottom hunters of the points table as both the sides are almost out of the semi-final contention. While Dolphins have managed to win one game so far in the season the Knights are yet to register their first win.

The Dolphins have enjoyed good success against the Knights in the recent years and their only win of the season also came against the same side. The Knights will have to play their best game if they want to win this game.

Knights Preview

Petrus van Biljon’s team hasn’t won a single game this season and to add to their frustration they have seen two back to back games being washed away. The side isn’t likely to make it to the semi-finals and would be playing for pride in the next game. Having lost against Dolphins earlier they would like to return those favors in the next game.

In their last game against Cape Cobras Patrick Kruger and Raynard van Tonder showed some fight with the bat as the rest of the batsmen were too busy getting out to poor shot selection. If the side has to win the next game Petrus van Biljon, Ryan McLaren and Andries Gous will need to fire with the bat.

The shining light for the side has been the form of Shadley van Schalkwyk and Tshepo Ntuli with the ball and the two have done reasonably well. Ryan McLaren has also bowled well in the odd spells. The team management would like to see better performances from Gerald Coetzee and Ottniel Baartman who have been bowling all over the place and giving away easy runs.

Knights Predicted Playing XI:

Ryan McLaren, Shadley van Schalkwyk, Eddie Leie, Petrus van Biljon (c), Grant Mokoena, Tshepo Ntuli , Patrick Kruger, Andries Gous (wk), Ottniel Baartman, Raynard van Tonder, Gerald Coetzee

Dolphins Preview

Since their win in the first game against the Knights Khaya Zondo’s side hasn’t had much to celebrate. Their last game against the Lions was washed out and in the previous one, they suffered a huge defeat at the hands of the Titans. The skipper would want his men to defeat the Knights like they had done earlier in the season.

They had a bad day with the bat in their last game against the Titans. Morne van Wyk and to some extent Cody Chetty did take on the opponents with the bat in the last game. Sarel Erwee has failed in all the games so far and looking like a walking wicket at the top.  Khaya Zondo and Robbie Frylinck will need to play well in the middle and they have done well in few games this season.

Prenelan Subrayen has bowled well this season and has stood out for his economical spells. Daryn Dupavillon has also done well. But Andile Phehlukwayo and Robbie Frylinck are just not living up to the demands of the occasion and they will need to bowl in the right areas in the upcoming game.

Dolphins Predicted Playing XI:

Morne van Wyk (wk), Robbie Frylinck, Prenelan Subrayen, Andile Phehlukwayo, Cody Chetty, Keshav Maharaj, Khaya Zondo (c), Sibonelo Makhanya, Daryn Dupavillon, Sarel Erwee, Marques Ackerman

Weather Conditions

There are chances of heavy showers at Bloemfontein on April 24 and this would disappoint the fans. The pitch has soaked in a lot of moisture in the last few days which will make it slower. The fast bowlers are likely to enjoy bowling here and score 150 plus would be a good one to defend on this surface.

VENUE

Mangaung Oval, Bloemfontein balances it out well between the batsmen and the bowlers and is a great venue for T20 cricket. While the pitch does offer some early assistance to the bowlers with the boundaries being small it is also a good place for the big hitters who can easily clear the fence.

Toss: To Bowl

The possibility of a rain interrupted game is high given the weather forecast. The side that wins the toss would like to bowl first on this wicket and exploit the assistance from the pitch. Chasing would also be easy in a rain curtailed game and the side winning the toss would like to bowl first.

There isn’t much to choose between the two sides as they have both been through a poor run in their previous games. Dolphins had started the season well where they had defeated the Knights and have looked a slightly better side in terms of their bowling. Knights don’t seem to have the confidence to overcome failure at the moment. This would put Dolphins slightly ahead of the Knights going into this game.
