Indian Premier League 2020 has been a bad experience so far for the Kings XI Punjab. Right from a poor umpiring decision that cost them the first game against Delhi Capitals, the side has been sliding down consistently. They suffered yet another crashing defeat against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the last game. As they take on the Kolkata Knight Riders in the next one they will have to win it to keep their hopes alive for the rest of the season. Kolkata Knight Riders comes into this game after a thrilling win against the Chennai Super Kings and have their tails high.
Four losses in a row have severely hurt the confidence in the Kings XI camp. Right through this season their bowling attack has looked ordinary and increased the pressure on the batting line-up. It will be interesting to see the kind of performance they come up with as the Kolkata Knight Riders would be looking to exploit their weakness in this game.
It was another miserable show from Lokesh Rahul’s side in their last game against Sunrisers’ Hyderabad where they lost by 69 runs. This was the fourth consecutive loss for the side and this has put them under serious pressure. Their batting line-up hasn’t fired in the last few games and they will need to come up with something special to win this game. Another loss would make it extremely difficult for them to make it to the next round.
The opening pair of Lokesh Rahul and Mayank Agarwal will have to provide a good start to the side as their failure has cost the team dearly. Nicholas Pooran comes here after a good knock and he has played well but it is the form of Glenn Maxwell that is hurting the side most this season. The Aussie has had a terrible season so far. The side would also expect the likes of Mandeep Singh and Simran Singh to do well in this game.
Bowling wise their side has suffered in the last few games and they need to pull their socks in this game. Sheldon Cottrell and Mujeeb ur Rehman need to get the side off to a good start. Mohammad Shami has also had an ordinary season and he will need to avoid leaking runs in the game. Maxwell and Arshdeep Singh aren’t looking in the best of form and the side would be expecting a turnaround from the bowlers against the KKR.

Dinesh Karthik would be extremely pleased with his bowlers for the kind of show they put up against Chennai Super Kings in their 10-run victory in the last game. They choked CSK in the final overs of the game. That said the side still has problems with its batting line-up and they haven’t done well here so far. Karthik would look to exploit poor form that Kings XI are in at the moment and earn two points from this game.
They have an opening combination in good form with Rahul Tripathi coming into this game after a match winning knock. Shubman Gill has also played well so far and the pair would look to provide a good start. Eoin Morgan and Nitish Rana have also done well but Sunil Narine’s form with the bat is a concern for the side. Andre Russell has so far had an ordinary season and the side would expect big hits from him in this game alongside Karthik towards the end of the innings.
Pat Cummins has been brilliant so far with the ball and the side would expect early wickets from him in this game along with his new ball partner Shivam Mavi. Varun Chakravarthy and Kamlesh Nagarkoti bowled well in the last game and shall carry confidence into this game. With Narine’s variety and Russell’s experience, this bowling attack is likely to trouble the Kings XI batsmen.

It will be a warm evening in Abu Dhabi on October 08 and we expect the pitch to be a good one to bat on. Though it has got a bit slower in the last few games batsmen are able to play on the front foot without any fear. There is nothing in there for the fast bowlers in this venue at the moment. The side batting first would have to keep a target more than 180 runs to win here.
Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi is a big venue but the batting-friendly wicket and the fast outfield has offered batsmen plenty of opportunities to score runs here. Fast bowlers have had a tough time here so far and have gone for runs. The slowness on the surface has aided the spinners who have been able to surprise the batsmen occasionally and grab wickets.
The last five games at this venue has seen the side batting first win on four occasions. The pitch has become easier to bat on as the tournament has progressed and being an afternoon game it will be tough conditions for the bowlers early on. The side that wins the toss in this game should have little hesitation in batting first.
Kings XI Punjab would be feeling the heat as they go into this game after having lost their last four. The side has got its team selection wrong and its bowling attack has looked clueless on most occasions. It will require a strong fight back from them to win this game. Knight Riders on the other hand have done well so far in the season and their win against Chennai Super Kings from a tight corner would have boosted the side’s confidence. They look a better side on paper and shall start favorites in this game.
