In an important North Group contest, the Leicestershire Foxes would be taking on the Durham Cricket in Vitality T20 Blast, 2022. It is the first game of the season for both sides and they would be looking for a perfect start. Both sides come into this contest after ordinary performances last season, and they would be eager to win their first game and gain confidence.
Leicestershire Foxes haven’t done well at their home ground against Durham in the last few years. They have defeated them only once in the last five games played here. This is likely to be in the back of their mind. Their form in the County Championship hasn’t been great either. The side would like to see a change in fortune with the change in the format of the game. Durham also doesn’t come here in great form, and we are likely to see a good contest.
Callum Parkinson would be leading the side this year and he would look to avoid the kind of performance they put up last year. They had lost their first five games and stuck form very late in the season. They have a few interesting overseas players in the squad this season and Parkinson would look to get the best out of them and get over their poor record at this venue.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s entry into the team adds to their batting strength and he would aim to provide a solid start with Scott Steel. In the middle order, the side would like to see Aaron Lilley do well and set up a good partnership with Hamish Rutherford who adds a new dimension to their batting line-up. Lewis Hill, Rishi Patel, and Callum Parkinson are good strikers of the ball, and we can expect to see fireworks from them.
On the bowling front, Callum Parkinson and Naveen-ul-Haq shall have to do well with the new ball being the most experienced bowlers on the side. of Lilley, Gavin Griffiths, and Ben Mike will have to make effective use of the conditions as they are taking on a batting line-up that has good hitters of the ball who can turn around a game in a span of few overs.

Ashton Turner has been given the leadership of the side for the season and the Australian T20 star who led the Perth Scorchers to a BBL title would look to do the same here. The side which has undergone several changes hadn’t done well last year and shall be aiming for a good start. They have enjoyed success at his venue in the last few seasons and Turner would like to improve this record.
The side would look for a good start from Graham Clark and Keegan Patersen in this game as this was one of the major weaknesses for the side last season. In the middle order, Sean Dickson and Ned Eckersley will look to set up important partnerships. Paul Coughlin, Turner, and Brydon Carse must do well in the finishers’ role and take the team to a good total.
Matty Potts and Mark Wood will have to make the new ball talk and Wood’s presence is a big bonus for the team as he brings raw pace to this attack. Carse and Ben Raine are experienced bowlers, and they will have to team up well. Turner adds depth to this attack, and he will look to bowl good lines with Liam Trevaskis.

The skies over Leister would be overcast and we might see rain on May 26. Bowlers would have a good time under these conditions as the ball is expected to move around. Batsmen must be watchful and play their strokes with caution. Anything above 170 runs would be a good score in these conditions.
Grace Road, Leicester has a flat track along with a fast outfield and this allows batsmen a freehand as they can score runs easily. But fast bowlers do enjoy bowling here under overcast conditions where the ball moves around. Spinners have had a tough time on this wicket as there isn’t much assistance for them.
The venue is known for high-scoring games. There is likely to be some assistance for the fast bowlers in the early stages of the match and batting would be easier in the second half of the game. The side winning the toss here would have little hesitation in opting to bowl first.
Leicestershire Foxes lost four out of seven games at home last season, and this would put them under additional pressure as they start their campaign. The side relied on individual performance last year and they would have to come up with a team effort this year. Durham Cricket has done well against the Foxes. They have a very strong bowling attack and this would give them an edge going into this contest.
