Leicestershire Foxes will take on table-toppers Lancashire Lightning in this all-important North Group game. Lancashire has so far remained unbeaten and is sitting pretty at the No.1 position with 9 points and a net run rate of +1.195. Leicestershire, meanwhile, has 3 wins in their kitty from 6 games at a net run rate of -0.867. Leicestershire has gathered some winning momentum in their last two games and would be confident of continuing at their home.

Leicestershire Preview

After losing their first two games by huge margins, Leicestershire has come back strongly and registered 3 wins in their next 4 games. In their last encounter, they beat Worcestershire by 26 runs.

The team will again be looking at Scott Steel (153 runs at 137.83) and Rishi Patel (149 runs at 133) – their leading run-getters – to make vital contributions. All-rounder Ben Mike (142 runs at 159.55) has made some vital contributions down the order and his role will be crucial too. Opener Hamish Rutherford has had a poor season so far and has just managed 51 runs. Captain Colin Ackermann (125 runs at 121.35) too needs to lead from the front and provide some stability to the middle-order.

Leicestershire’s bowling has been better. Naveen-ul-Haq is fresh off a sensational match-winning spell of 5-11 in the game against Worcestershire. The Afghanistani fast bowler has sown excellent control and can change games in the middle overs when in flow. Callum Parkinson (6 wickets at 7.66) and leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed (8 wickets at 7.78) have done a commendable job too.

Leicestershire Predicted Playing XI:

Hamish Rutherford, Scott Steel, Arron Lilley, Lewis Hill (wk), Colin Ackermann (c), Rishi Patel, Ben Mike, Rehan Ahmed, Callum Parkinson, Naveen-ul-Haq, Will Davis

Lancashire Preview

Lancashire has won 4 games in a row and will be looking to continue that momentum. In their last game, they chased down a target of 154 against Northamptonshire with just 1 ball to spare and 2 wickets in hand. It was a roller-coaster of a game and a late assault by Tim David (42 off 26 balls) ensured their victory. David now has 174 runs at a stunning strike rate of 189.13. He’s the game-changer for Lancashire down the order and will again be the man to watch out for.

Liam Livingstone (162 runs at 143.36) has also been in form while opener Philip Salt (155 runs at 146.22) has provided the team with quick runs at the top. They have a robust batting unit with some power hitters that can turn the complexion of the game in a few balls.

Their bowling has also been good. Richard Gleeson is leading the way with 9 wickets at 8.05. Left-arm fast bowler Luke Wood (6 wickets at 8.25) has been doing a fine job upfront. Livingstone (5 wickets at 6.96) has held the spinner’s role pretty well and has even opened the bowling for the team, but they will need their regular spin bowlers like Tom Hartley and Luke Wells to do a better job.

Lancashire Predicted Playing XI:

Philip Salt (wk), Keaton Jennings, Liam Livingstone, Dane Vilas (c), Tim David, Steven Croft, Luke Wells, Danny Lamb, Luke Wood, Tom Hartley, Richard Gleeson

Weather Conditions

The pitch at Grace Road has been good for batting but has something in it for the bowlers too. Batting second, however, might not be that easy here as the wicket does tend to slow down and the ball does grip a little. Batting first and piling on the runs will be the way to go.

Venue Details

The average score by the team batting first at Grace Road is 165. However, totals above 190 have been achieved 9 times here. The team batting first should be looking to post a total of around 170-180 runs.

Toss: To Bat

In the two games played at Grace Road, Leicester, this season, the teams batting first won comfortably. It looks like a good batting first wicket and the captain winning the toss is likely to take first strike.

In the last 3 completed games between Leicestershire and Lancashire, 2 have been won by Lancashire and 1 by the Leics. While Leicestershire will be playing at home and have got some winning momentum with them, Lancashire looks too strong at the moment. Their batting strength, particularly the hot form of Tim David and Liam Livingstone, might be too much to handle for Leicestershire.

Back Lancashire to register a comfortable win.
