Tournament: VITALITY T20 BLAST 2020 | Format: T20 | Venue: Grace Road, Leicester, England | Toss: To Bat
Bet NowTouted as one of the favourites prior to the tournament, the Notts have lived up their billing thus far with a clinical run that’s seen them be unbeaten so far. They’ll be keen to head into the knockouts without losing a game and they face a slippery contest at Grace Road with Leicestershire being an unpredictable opponent.
The hosts have seen three matches getting washed out and that hasn’t helped their cause this season. Not that they have otherwise been very consistent but bad weather has often played spoilsport in some of the more important games. They don’t have the kind of firepower to stretch a formidable side like the Notts but on their day, the Leics can be a tricky opponent to face. With the qualification pressure off their shoulders, they would want to enjoy themselves on home turf and hope to be the first team to beat the Notts this season.
The visitors are wary of the threat and given the format of T20, anything can happen and they wouldn’t want to be complacent at this stage with the knockouts not that far away.
They can be called the chasing machine, given their prowess to bat second and they’ve chased down scores of varying ranges with effortless ease. The batting line-up is intimidating in terms of the fearless approach and the enviable depth that they have in their ammunition. The strategy has been simple, bowl first and irrespective of what the opposition gets, the Notts have been confident of getting across the line in run chases. Only once have they had to bat first and they managed victorious in that game too, showing that they aren’t vulnerable defending a score. Still, given the might of their batting riches, it’s a no-brainer why the Notts have preferred to chase, particularly on the true surfaces of Trent Bridge. However, as the tournament goes on from here, chasing could get dicey with all pitches being considerably tired by now. It will require the Notts to use a modus operandi that they haven’t used as much, and they would like to test it out in the games leading up to the knockouts. Remaining unbeaten would also be on their minds as they try to emulate the recent CPL winner Trinbago Knight Riders in winning a title unbeaten. Still a long way for that though.

Having lost their last two games, including a thrilling home game, the mood in the Leicestershire camp will be a dull. But with qualification chances already done, they wouldn’t want to sulk and would instead look to end their season on a high with some good performances. The loss to the bottom-placed Derbyshire side would have come as a rude wake up call, given that it was a game that Leicestershire had in their bag, only to let it slip. Their top-heavy batting unit has suffered this season due to the lack of form of the top-order which has won them games whenever they have clicked but that hasn’t happened frequently. Skipper Colin Ackermann has been barely average this season and given the impact he has on the side, he would be disappointed with himself. The others haven’t covered themselves with glory either with Gareth Delany also having an inconsistent campaign. The duo were expected to do bigger things but have been very patchy in their performances. Leicestershire would want to finish their final home game of the season on a winning note but it won’t be easy.

The forecast is for a clear day with cold temperatures at Grace Road. The pitch should be on the slower side due to the number of games that have been played on it. There could be uneven bounce on offer and batsmen need to be smart.
A very scenic venue, Grace Road has been host to quite a few white-ball internationals including World Cups. Surfaces have generally been sporting with a good balance between bat and ball.
With the pitches being considerably used, batting first seems to be the better option as the deck could slow down a lot in the second half of the game.
Notts are overwhelming favourites in this clash due to their team strength and form. Leicestershire, despite being the home side, don’t seem equipped enough to deal with the opposition at hand.
We’re expecting the Notts to extend their juggernaut!
