Lahore Qalandars would be taking on the Peshawar Zalmi in the 1st Eliminator game of the Pakistan Super League 2020. The tournament is resuming after 7 months when the Covid-19 pandemic resulted in the postponement into the playoff stage. Both the sides would be rusty and have to get their playing XI right with some overseas players missing as they go into this do-or-die contest.
Lahore Qalandars did well in the final stages of the tournament to finish within the Top 4, the first time the side has managed to get into the final stages of the tournament. They will be looking to win this one and proceed further. Peshawar Zalmi lost form in the final stages but they have experience of playing at this stage and this will count a lot in this game.
Sohail Akhtar would be looking for the same spirit from his sides as they had shown in the final stages of the league games. They had won the last four out of five games to earn themselves a place in the playoffs after a slow start. Akhtar would look for a good show from his strong batting line-up in this game.
Batting is the side’s strength and they will expect a good start from Fakhar Zaman and Tamim Iqbal in this game. The side will miss the services of Chris Lynn at the top. In the middle order the side has good players in Ben Dunk, Akhtar and Mohammad Hafeez and they add strength to the side. With David Wiese and Samit Patel down the order the side has good firepower in its batting.
Shaheen Afridi and Hafeez will have to grab wickets with the new ball as they have been the best performers for the side. In Wiese and Haris Rauf they have bowlers who can stop the flow of runs in the middle overs. Dilbar Hussain and Patel will need to focus on bowling tingt lines in this game.
Sohail Akhtar (c), Fakhar Zaman, Tamim Iqbal, Ben Dunk (wk), Mohammad Hafeez, Samit Patel, David Wiese, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, Raja Farzan, Dilbar Hussain
Daren Sammy’s side struggled in the last phase of the league games but the most successful team in this tournament’s history would be looking to turn it around here. They have players who have done well when the going has gone tough and Sammy would pin his hopes on the big guns of the side to deliver in this game.
Kamran Akmal shall look to provide a good start in this game along with Imam-ul Haq. Akmal had been in great form in the league stages. In the middle order the side packs good experience with Liam Livingstone and Shoaib Malik having done well. Faf du Plessis who did well in the IPL is a good addition to the middle order. Carlo Brathwaite and Sammy will be looking to use the long handle in this game.
Their bowlers would have to do well as this is one of the weak areas for the side. Wahab Riaz and Hasan Ali need to work their magic with the new ball as Lahore has a strong batting line-up. In Sohaib Malik and Yasir Shah they have lot of experience for the middle overs. The side would expect tight line and length from Brathwaite in this game.

The skies over Karachi would be clear on November 14 and it would be a cool evening with the temperatures dropping as the game progresses. We expect to see a flat surface here where there isn’t likely to be much for the bowlers. The side batting first in this game would be eying a score near the 200 run mark to feel comfortable.
National Stadium Karachi is a great surface to bat on and batsmen can play the ball on the up with not much of bounce available to the fast bowlers. Fast bowlers have struggled here at thus venue in the past as there is hardly anything in the surface for them. Spinners have enjoyed good success given the turn that is on offer.
The conditions aren’t likely to change much in this game as it is a late evening start. The pitch here has always been a good one to bat on and we have seen big scores being put up here. We expect the captain winning the toss to bat first in this game.
It will be an interesting contest as the performances of the two sides in the league stage would count little given the long break we have seen in this tournament. Lahore Qalandars have a very strong batting line-up and their bowlers have done well as well. Peshawar Zalmi is good with the bat but their bowlers have struggled. While there is little to choose between the two sides at the moment Lahore Qalandars would start slightly ahead in this game.
