With the points table taking shape the 17th game of Momentum One Day Cup 2019 shall be very important for Cape Cobras and the Lions. Both the sides are sitting in the bottom half of the points table as they head into the next game at New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg.

Lions have particularly been in bad form and have won only once in the season so far. Their batmen and bowlers struggling while for Cape Cobras it has been slightly better.

Cape Cobras won against the Lions earlier in the season and this makes it three games in a row over the last two seasons. Lions would have to turn up for the next game with a positive frame of mind to win it.

Lions Preview

Temba Bavuma’s team is having a tough time in the middle. Their last game’s loss against the Warriors has pushed them back. Having lost to the Cape Cobras earlier in the season the side would look to make amends in the next game.

Kagiso Rapulana and Ryan Rickelton have to give the side a good start which they failed to do in the last game. Bavuma also failed and has to do well in the next game. Dominic Hendricks played brilliantly for his hundred in the last game and so did Nicky van den Bergh in his entertaining knock. They have strength in the lower order and would be hoping to put up a big score in the next game.

Bjorn Fortuin and Aaron Phangiso were their star bowlers in the last game. But Nandre Burger's form has been bit of concern as he leaked too many runs in the last game. Delano Potgieter and Malusi Siboto will need to bowl well in the next game for the side to win.

Lions Predicted Playing XI:

Aaron Phangiso, Temba Bavuma (c), Malusi Siboto, Dominic Hendricks, Nono Pongolo, Bjorn Fortuin, Nicky van den Bergh (wk), Kagiso Rapulana, Ryan Rickelton, Nandre Burger, Delano Potgieter.

Lions Actual Playing XI:

Aaron Phangiso, Ryan Rickelton, Dominic Hendricks, Dwaine Pretorius, Mangaliso Mosehle, NJ Van den Bergh, Bjorn Fortuin, Nandre Burger, Kagiso Rapulana, Temba Bavuma, MP Siboto

Cape Cobras Preview

Jean-Paul Duminy the Cape Cobras skipper would have been upset with the loss in the last game against Titans. They have to win the next game and shall go all out and improve their chances of making it to the semi-final.

Janneman Malan has been in good form this season and together with Hashim Amla would be looking to do well in the next game. Duminy missed out in the last game but David Bedingham played well. With Rory Kleinveldt having shown good form in the last game the side would count its chances as they take on Lions bowling attack which is relatively inexperienced.

Rory Kleinveldt and Akhona Mnyaka bowled well in the last game but the rest of the bowlers just gave away too many runs. There were too many loose balls from the likes of Dane Paterson and Tladi Bokako. Paterson who has done well so far in the season would like to put last game’s failure behind as he plays the next game.

Cape Cobras Predicted Playing XI:

Jean-Paul Duminy (c), Hashim Amla, Rory Kleinveldt, Dane Paterson, Aviwe Mgijima, George Linde, Zubayr Hamza, Tladi Bokako, Akhona Mnyaka, Janneman Malan, David Bedingham (wk) .

Cape Cobras Actual Playing XI:

Mthiwekhaya Nabe, George Linde, Jean-Paul Duminy, Zubayr Hamza, Rory Kleinveldt, Dane Paterson, Akhona Mnyaka, Pieter Malan, Aviwe Mgijima, Janneman Malan, Kyle Verreynne

Weather Conditions

The weather at Johannesburg on the 7th of March is expected to be slightly cloudy with chances of light showers. The pitch has been good for batting over the years with true pace and bounce. The team batting first would eye a total in excess of 300 to make the game competitive.

Venue

The New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg is by far the best batting wicket in South Africa. A fast outfield adds to the advantage of the batsmen. Stroke makers have done well in the past as it is easy to play through the line. Fast bowlers who are willing to test the batsmen bowling up have also achieved return from the wicket.

Toss: To Bat

It has been a ground where teams batting first have done well. The captain winning the toss should have no hesitation in batting first on this wicket. The ball comes on to the bat pretty nicely here and it makes it a good ground to set a total and defend it.

Both the sides are struggling at the moment if the overall picture is taken into account. Though the Lions are sitting above Cape Cobras in the points table owing to a better run rate they have managed to win just one game so far. In the earlier game that the two sides played Cape Cobras emerged as the winners and betters would like to put their money on Cobras going into this game.
