It is the 4th game of the Momentum One Day Cup 2019 and Lions would play against Warriors in their home ground New Wanderers Stadium. The two sides have shared great rivalry over the years and are packed with quality talent. Over the last two seasons Lions have had the edge over the Warriors and have won three out of the four games that have seen results.

It remains to be seen if the Warriors who have a good side this time are able to get better of Lions or the home side collects their two points from this game.

Lions Preview

Rassie van der Dussen’s team would want to overcome the defeat in the last game at the hands of Dolphins. They had set up a win chasing a huge total and it was only in the last few overs of their chase that they lost the game.

Lions’ batting looks top class going into this game. Reeza Hendricks and Rassie van der Dussen are in great form with Hendricks having made this wonderful hundred in the last game. Wiaan Mulder also looked good and with Ryan Rickelton and Kagiso Rapulana in the side the team has good strength in its batting to do well on a Wanderers wicket.

In the last game their bowlers conceded far too many runs for the skipper’s liking. Wiaan Mulder through stood out with this bowling. Craig Alexander, Nandre Burger and Dwaine Pretorius will need to do well in the next game and not concede as many runs as they did in the last game for the side to do well against the Warriors.

Lions Predicted Playing XI:

Craig Alexander, Mangaliso Mosehle (wk), Dwaine Pretorius, Reeza Hendricks, Rassie van der Dussen (c), Nono Pongolo, Bjorn Fortuin, Wiaan Mulder, Kagiso Rapulana, Ryan Rickelton, Nandre Burger.

Warriors Preview

The Warriors led by JJ Smuts kick-started their campaign well winning the last game against Cape Cobras. The side is packed with quality youngsters who would look to do well in the upcoming game. A win in the next game would strengthen their position in the points table.

Matthew Breetzke and Gihahn Cloete set up a great opening stand in the last game and shall look to do well in the next game. Sinethemba Qeshile also did well but the rest of the batting looked out of sorts. Yaseen Vallie and Christiaan Jonker will need to do well in the next game for the side to win.

The bowling attack looks good for the side with Andrew Birch and Sisanda Magala having done well with the new ball. Lutho Sipamla and JJ Smuts also did well in the last game and they would be looking forward to continuing with the same form in the next game.

Warriors Predicted Playing XI:

JJ Smuts (c), Andrew Birch, Gihahn Cloete, Yaseen Vallie, Christiaan Jonker, Sisanda Magala, Lutho Sipamla, Thomas Kaber, Matthew Breetzke, Sinethemba Qeshile (wk), Onke Nyaku .

Weather Conditions

There are chances of rain and thunderstorm as per weather forecast for February 14 in Johannesburg. The pitch here has been flat and ideal for batting and 300 plus score is on the cards in ideal conditions. But overcast conditions during the game may make it slightly friendly for the bowlers.

Venue

New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg is the flattest and most batting friendly wicket in South Africa that has seen several high scoring games in the past. The ball comes onto the bat nicely and this has allowed stroke makers to hit the ball through the line. The fast bowlers find some movement in the early overs at this ground and have to cash in quickly.

Toss: To Bat

The ground is considered to be a batsman’s paradise and teams have always preferred to bat here and set up a score on the board. With the season midway the pitch has got flatter and the captain winning the toss would definitely want to put up a huge score for the side to defend.
