Both the sides had a poor season in 2019 finishing 4th and 6th on the points table respectably and they would like to hope for a better show this year. A good start is the most important thing in such tournaments and the two teams would be aiming for a win here. 

The Lyca Kovai Kings have enjoyed a good record against the Salem Spartans in the past where they have won the last three out of four games that has played between the two sides. Shahrukh Khan’s side had finished 4th last season. They were on and off during the last edition of the tournament and the skipper would like to get a perfect start with a win in the first game. They have a young and exciting bunch of players and Khan would want them to play to their potential in this game. 

The side would expect a good start from Shahrukh Khan and Sai Sudarshan with Khan having his range of strokes. The middle order looks rock solid and has players like Ganga Sridhar Raju, Mulikesh U and R Kavin in the side. Ashwin Venkataraman and Abhishek Tanwar are capable of scoring quick runs down the order for the side.

They have a formidable bowling attack led by T Natrajan who brings vast experience to the table. He would look to grab early wickets in the game alongside K Vignesh. Arvindh G and Nishaanth Kumar Alwar also have been making news in the domestic circuit and they will have to bowl tighter lines as their opponents have a powerful batting line-up.

Salem Spartans Preview

Daryl S Ferrario would want his side to put behind the bad memories of last year. They had an ordinary season finishing 6th on the points table. The side has bunch of experienced players and this is their biggest strength. As they play the first game, Ferrario would be aiming for early points in the season. 

Washington Sundar’s absence would be felt in this game, but they do have a steady opening pair in Akshay Srinivasan and Daryl S Ferrario. The middle order has the experience of Vijay Shankar and he would look to make runs along with KH Gopinath. Lower down the order Vasanth Srinivasan, Vijay Kumar and Murugan Ashwin shall have to do the big hitting for the side. 

Murugan Ashwin brings vast experience to the table and shall look to grab early wickets sharing the new ball with S Boopalan. Shankar is a veteran of many battles, and the side would have high expectations from him. With M Ganesh Moorthi and R Karthikeyan in the side they have a balanced attack for this game.

The skies over Chennai would be cloudy on July 19 and there are predictions for rains during the game. The wicket here is always good to bat on where the ball comes to the bat nicely.  The side batting first in this game would have to score in excess of 180 runs to feel comfortable.

MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai is a good venue for T20 cricket as fast bowlers do find assistance from the surface unlike most Indian venues. Batsmen have to play to the merit of the ball The track is slow and hence spinners have always enjoyed bowling on this surface.

Chennai has a good batting surface and in the past we have seen sides put up big scores at this venue. The wicket doesn’t change much in character here in the second innings. The side that wins the toss in this game would like to bat first and put up a bog score on the board.
