Lucknow Super Giants made their IPL debut last season but did not play a single match in Lucknow. LSG are all set to kick off their 2023 IPL journey at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. KL Rahul will be looking to extend LSG’s unbeaten run against the Delhi Capitals in IPL as they meet for the third time.

They have made a few changes though the core remains intact. After Rishabh Pant met with an accident, he was ruled out of IPL given the serious injuries he suffered. David Warner will now be the captain and DC are coming into this season with only one wicket-keeper batsman, Phil Salt.

All eyes will be on KL Rahul who has been the subject of much criticism from fans in the last few months. His place in the national team has come under question.

He was criticized for his strike rate in the last IPL and it was his unwillingness to play more aggressively that eventually knocked LSG out of the playoffs. Marcus Stoinis, Deepak Hooda, and Quinton de Kock will continue being part of the top 4 of this LSG side.

These are the key players in the batting department who can make or break their winning chances. There are many all-rounders in the LSG squad and that allows for variety in the bowling attack. With Krishanppa Gowtham coming in at number 8, LSG has great depth in the batting lineup as well.

This season, Daniel Sams will be joining the Super Giants and can be seen in the match-finisher’s role in the late middle order. Ayush Badoni is another key batsman to watch out for.

Left-arm fast-medium bowler, Mohsin Khan caught everyone’s attention last year with 14 wickets from 9 matches at an economy rate of 5.97. He returned figures of 4 for 16 against DC in their second encounter last season. Ravi Bishnoi and Avesh Khan are other key bowlers in the LSG squad who will be expected to deliver breakthroughs.

Delhi Capitals Preview

This is a great opportunity for David Warner to redeem himself. He was stripped of the captaincy in SRH and later dropped from the XI. He was signed by DC in the mega auction as Hyderabad persisted with Williamson. 

Warner had led SRH to their first title win in 2016. He is back in the captain’s role and this time for Delhi Capitals. He’s got a great squad to pick his team from and get the first points on the board.

DC should be considering Sarfaraz Khan this season. He delivered some outstanding performances in the domestic season and hogged the limelight. Rilee Rossouw has also joined DC this year along with Phil Salt. There is great firepower in this squad with the likes of Shaw, Warner, Powell, Salt, and Sarfaraz Khan.

In the lower middle order, Axar Patel is also a strong finisher who’s got plenty of experience now. Mitchell Marsh is another key player Warner would consider including in the XI. There are no changes to the all-rounders’ department though there’s been a major change in the bowling department.

Ishant Sharma comes in for Shardul Thakur and this can put DC in a strong position. Chetan Sakariya has been impressive and is a promising young bowler in this setup. Nortje will be one to watch out for with the new ball though LSG managed to play him well last season.
