Lucknow Super Giants are faced with the challenge of taking on a rampant Kolkata Knight Riders team at the Ekana stadium in Lucknow. With KKR accounting for their first duel this season, LSG will be hoping to pay back with interest by winning at home.
The win at Eden Gardens was the first for KKR against LSG in four meetings between the two teams. Now that they’ve opened their account, KKR will be looking to quickly catch up on the tally with another dominating or perhaps a winning performance against KL Rahul’s men.
Both KKR and LSG come into the match with three wins in five matches, and the two teams will be hoping to pick up two crucial points from this fixture to solidify their position at the top of the table.
With teams like Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings hot on their heels, both the teams will need to keep climbing upwards to be able to get a guaranteed place in the playoffs.
Lucknow Super Giants run so far in the tournament has been average at best, but they’ve done well to keep up with the table-toppers, particularly Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders. The Royals beat LSG fair and square in both encounters, and KKR got the better of them at Eden Gardens with a 8-wicket win. But KL Rahul’s men have been good otherwise.
They upstaged defending champs Chennai Super Kings both home and away, with the big Stoinis producing his first century of the IPL to wrap up a thrilling chase alongside Deepak Hooda over at Chepauk. Stoinis again stepped up to the plate on a tricky surface against an out-of-form Mumbai Indians side to get LSG over the line with a match-winning 62(45).
With Nicholas Pooran still searching for form, the Australian has shown great sense of maturity to finish games for his team and been instrumental in adding four points to LSG’s tally. When it comes to bowling, LSG have been inconsistent to say the least. Not one bowler has been able to bowl with consistency to trouble opposition batters. Tearaway quick Mayank Yadav looked ominous at his best but had to be rested owing to injury concerns.
His return to the fold against MI wasn’t great either, as he went back hobbling unable to complete his full quota of overs. Ravi Bishnoi and Krunal Pandya have been a tad disappointing this season, and their inability to keep things quiet through the middle has proven costly for LSG.
KL Rahul to score over 29.5 runs 1.85
Bet nowThe captain of Lucknow Super Giants, KL Rahul after his initial struggles has picked up form off late. he has scored two half centuries and one 30+ score in his last five innings. Given his recent form, we back KL Rahul to come good and score over 29.5 runs.
KL Rahul (c & wk), Marcus Stoinis, Deepak Hooda, Nicholas Pooran, Ashton Turner, Ayush Badoni, Krunal Pandya, Ravi Bishnoi, Naveen-ul-Haq, Mohsin Khan, Mayank Yadav. Impact Sub: Arshin Kulkarni.

Sunil Narine has proven his credentials as an allrounder with some impressive performances with both bat and ball in the 10 games so far this season. He has accumulated 380 runs at a blistering strike rate at the top of the order and picked up 11 wickets with his economical bowling through the middle overs. Phil Salt has made the opener’s role his very own, too, piling up nearly 400 runs off his 10 games.
KKR could use some assistance from their Indian batsmen though. Captaincy has weighed heavily on Shreyas Iyer, who, in contrast to his free-flowing style of batting, has struggled making 257 runs off 10 games. Venkatesh Iyer starred with the bat against MI, making a match-winning 70 to take them to a decent total.
Ankrish Raghuvanshi has done a decent job so far, but it’s still early days in this tournament for him. Andre Russell, the experienced campaigner, hasn’t been able to quite belt the opposition bowlers out of the attack, like he’s capable of.
On the bowling front, the most expensive player of all time Mitchell Starc hasn’t quite found his radar yet. Harshit Rana, his lesser known bowling partner with the new ball has chipped in with some handy scalps, but he’s leaked runs too. Mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy is perhaps not so mysterious anymore, with teams starting to target him with clear plans. As a result, his economy has taken a battering.
Sunil Narine to score over 15.5 runs 1.85
Bet nowSunil Narine has been just phenomenal and consistent this season, he has provided starts in almost every match he has played. Narine has scored a total of 380 runs in 10 matches and given his impeccable batting, we back him to score over 15.5 runs in today's match.
Phil Salt (wk), Sunil Narine, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Shreyas Iyer (capt), Venkatesh Iyer, Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, 8 Ramandeep Singh, Mitchell Starc, Vaibhav Arora, Varun Chakaravarthy. Impact Sub: Manish Pandey.

When LSG met MI in the recent fixture at this venue, run-scoring was certainly not as easy as it was in the five games prior to that. Only one batsman from either side could make more than fifty runs on what was a slightly two-paced surface. If the surface plays similarly, spinners could come into play straightaway.
The match will be played at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Both teams will be facing each other at Lucknow for the first time ever.
Total aggregate runs over 349.5 1.976
Bet nowLucknow is the only venue in this IPL season other than Jaipur where the pitches have been balanced and the total aggregate scores have been on the lower side compared to other venues. The average total aggregate score at Lucknow this season is 341 runs. Out of the six matches played, three times the scores have been over the 350 run mark and with KKR playing you can always expect the scores to be high. We predict the total combined score to be over 349.5 runs in today's match.
If the results of the recent 4 games is anything to go by, chasing is in vogue here. Teams have found no trouble tracking down targets like 145, 199, 177 and 168 with more than a handful of balls to spare. Our guess is that the team winning the toss would not hesitate to bat second.
We’re putting our money on Kolkata Knight Riders mainly because they’ve been extremely consistent in taking advantage of field restrictions during powerplay. Besides, their spinners have come away with more wickets and bowled with discipline through the middle phase.
We are backing Kolkata Knight Riders as winners of this contest.
