We have seen close games already in The Hundred, 2021 and the sides are fighting it hard to improve their position on the points table. Manchester Originals come here with a win against the Welsh Fire and sit on the 2nd spot in the points table. They would look to move ahead with a win in this game. Southern Brave grabbed a close victory in their last game against the London Spirit.

Southern Brave have struggled with the ball, and they have conceded big scores in the last three games. This would be a major weakness for the side as they play against one of the best batting sides in the tournament. The Originals have good knowledge of the conditions, and they would look to do well in this game.

Manchester Originals Preview

It was a good run case by Carlos Brathwaite’s side in the last game that saw them defeat the Welsh Fire by 7 wickets. This win has taken the side to the 2nd place on the points table. As the side plays at home, Brathwaite would look to cement his side’s position at the top of the points table with a win in this game.

Openers Phillip Salt and Joe Clarke are in good form and the side would like to see a strong start from them. Colin Munro played well in the last game and makes the middle order formidable with Colin Ackermann and Brathwaite. The side has good hitters down the order in Tom Lammonby, Calvin Harrison and Tom Hartley and they would aim to push up the scoring rate.

The side will have to work on its bowling as they have bowled poorly in the last two games. Steven Finn and Brathwaite need to bowl tight spells with the new ball. Tom Hartley was brilliant in the last game and the presence of Lockie Ferguson, Calvin Harrison and Matthew Parkinson makes this attack strong going into the contest.

Manchester Originals Predicted Playing XI:

Carlos Brathwaite (c), Philip Salt, Joe Clarke (wk), Colin Munro, Colin Ackermann, Tom Lammonby, Calvin Harrison, Tom Hartley, Lockie Ferguson, Steven Finn, Matthew Parkinson

Southern Brave Preview

Back-to-back wins have restored the confidence in the camp and James Vince would aim to make it three in a row. The side defeated the London Spirit by 4 runs in a close game and their batting is looking in good form. Vince would like to see better efforts from his bowlers in this game as they have leaked runs in almost all games.

James Vince and Quinton de Kock have been getting starts and the side would like to see a big stand from them in the game. The middle order looks rock solid with Alex Davies and Devon Conway scoring runs. The side would expect to see good job towards the end of the innings from Colin de Grandhomme, Ross Whitely and George Garton.

Their bowling attack has shaped poorly so far, and the side would need economical spells and early wickets from Colin de Grandhomme and George Garton. Tymal Mills looked good in the last game, and he will have to keep the light tight along with Chris Jordan and Jake Lintott as they are up against a very strong batting line-up.

Southern Brave Predicted Playing XI:

James Vince (c), Quinton de Kock (wk), Devon Conway, Alex Davies, Ross Whiteley, Colin de Grandhomme, Chris Jordan, Liam Dawson, George Garton, Tymal Mills, Jake Lintott

Weather Conditions

The skies over Manchester would see cloud cover on August 05 and there are expectations of rain interruptions. The wicket is generally a flat on here and batsmen are able to play their strokes freely. The side batting first would be happy to cross the 150-run mark as this can easily be defended in these weather conditions.

Venue Details

Old Trafford is known for being a flat surface. The ball comes on to the bat easily and this allows batsmen to play their strokes. There isn’t much of assistance for the fast bowlers like other venues in England. The track does offer good turn to the spinners, and they have enjoyed good success.

Toss: To Bat

Sides have generally preferred to bat first on this surface as the wicket is flat and allows the side to score lots of runs. Chasing scores can be difficult as the track wears out fast. Thus we believe the side that wins the toss here shouldn’t have any hesitation in batting first on this wicket.

Southern Brave won the last two games, but the side has struggled with its bowling. None of their bowlers have so far stood up to the challenge in the competition and this is a big challenge for the side on a flat surface. Manchester Originals are playing at home, and they have their batsmen in great form. The game is expected to be a close one but the Originals with their batting strength shall start favorites in this game.
