Mumbai Indians face Sunrisers Hyderabad at Wankhede in Match 33 of IPL 2025 on Thursday night. Both teams have found some rhythm after stumbling early in the season and will be looking to build on recent wins. The pitch should favour the batters, and with the kind of hitters both sides have, a run-fest seems likely. MI might just have the edge thanks to the home advantage.

Mumbai Indians bounced back in style after a patchy run, pulling off a thrilling 12-run win over second-placed Delhi Capitals. Batting first, they put up 205-5, and then held their nerve with the ball to keep Delhi to 193.
This was the kind of team performance MI had been missing, with nearly everyone stepping up. Tilak Varma stood out with a cracking 58 off 33 — his second straight fifty — and with the next match at Wankhede, where he tends to do well, that’s a good sign. That said, the top order still hasn’t really clicked. Will Jacks and Ryan Rickelton have had their moments, but haven’t delivered anything game-changing. Rohit Sharma is yet to find rhythm, so expectations around him are muted for now.
Suryakumar Yadav has carried the batting so far. He’s collected 239 runs from six games at an average of 47.80 and a strike rate of 149.37. He remains central to MI’s chances. Hardik Pandya finding some rhythm again helps — he looked sharp finishing off the innings last game and paired well with Naman Dhir, who smashed an unbeaten 38 off 17.
Pandya’s also contributed with the ball, picking up 10 wickets while going at 8.81 an over. Deepak Chahar has chipped in with five wickets and a decent economy. Boult continues to be dangerous with the new ball and in the final overs.
Jasprit Bumrah had an off day last match, but his presence is still a major plus. Alongside Boult at the death, he gives MI a solid edge in closing out games. Santner has kept things steady in the middle, and Vignesh Puthur has quietly picked up six wickets so far.
Karn Sharma, brought in as the Impact Sub, made his presence felt immediately, grabbing 3 for 36 in his four — another handy option through the middle overs.
Rohit Sharma has scored 56 runs in 5 matches and is due for a big knock. He hasn't lived upto the expectations and today might just be the day where the "Hitman" unleashes at his home ground, where he has dominated and scored 2325 runs in 82 matches. Against SRH at Wankhede, Rohit has scored 182 runs in 8 matches, averaging 26.
Suryakumar Yadav has scores of 40, 28, 67, 27, 48 & 29 runs this season. He has been consistently scoring runs and is also the leading run-scorer for Mumbai Indians this season with 239 runs in 6 matches, averaging 47.80. At Wankhede Stadium, Surya has scored 1134 runs in 34 matches and on average scores 39.24 runs per match.

After dropping four games in a row, Sunrisers Hyderabad bounced back with a bang, pulling off a wild win over Punjab Kings at home. They chased down a massive 246 in just 18.3 overs, losing only two wickets. Abhishek Sharma went ballistic, hammering 141 off just 55 balls – the third-highest score in IPL history. Travis Head chipped in with 66 off 37, and their 171-run opening stand in just 12.2 overs completely flattened the chase.
This is what SRH can do when their top order clicks. If Abhishek and Head go hard early, they’ve got Klaasen, Ishan Kishan, and Nitish Kumar ready to keep the scoreboard ticking and the boundaries flowing.
Aniket Verma has turned into a reliable contributor – he’s been finding the fence in the middle and late overs and has an eye-catching strike rate of 183 to back that up.
They’ll love batting at Wankhede, and MI’s attack is going to be under the pump.
Shami and Cummins need to hit their stride fast – both have been off the mark lately, bleeding runs at moments that have hurt the team. Harshal Patel has been getting the job done, picking up middle-over wickets with his slower stuff and variations. Eshan Malinga has slotted in well too, always looking dangerous with the ball.
Keep an eye on spinner Zeeshan Ansari. He’s grabbed four wickets in four matches and has been locking it down with the ball every time he’s bowled.
Travis Head has smashed 9 sixes in 6 matches this season. He has been bit scrathy in away games and yet to make a significant impact. At Wankhede Stadium, Head is averaging one six per match which isn't ideal for a power hitter. Given his current form, we back Travis Head to come out on top and deposit two maximums into the stands.
Barring the hundred in the first match, Ishan Kishan hasn't done anything substantial with the bat in the rest of the matches. But this is a big game for him, where he will up against his former team and at a venue where he has scored 657 runs in 30 matches, averaging 23.46. It is high time, where he steps up and we back him to bounce back and play an impactful knock.
Abhishek Sharma scored a magnificent 141 runs against Punjab Kings after failing to score runs in the first 5 matches of the season. At Wankhede Stadium, he has scored 130 runs in 6 matches, averaging 22. Though he has struggled against Mumbai Indians (146 runs in 9 matches), we back him to come good against a top quality bowling lineup and score over 24 runs.

Wankhede usually offers a flat pitch that favors batters, but there's often some early movement under lights, especially with a fresh ball. Fast bowlers can get a bit of help up top before conditions tilt toward the batters. Once that early threat is dealt with, scoring tends to get a lot easier. Spinners, on the other hand, don’t get much to work with—there’s barely any turn, and the surface doesn’t give them much grip. The deck should stay hard and true, which makes things tough for anyone relying on slower deliveries.
Expect hot and sticky weather in Mumbai, but rain shouldn’t be an issue.

Average TurnWankhede Stadium typically produces first-innings scores around 170 on average. RCB set the IPL benchmark at this venue back in 2015, smashing 235-1 against MI. This season has seen extremes - 116 one match, then 221-5 the next. Given the ground's reputation for high scores, however, neither side will feel safe unless they push beyond 200.
We back the home team Mumbai Indians to win the coin toss in match 33 of Tata IPL 2025.
The last match played at Wankhede was a high scoring one where the total match score was 430. Matches at Wankhede 7/10 times are high scoring, where the red soil pitches offer good assistance to the batsman. Both teams boast solid batting lineups and expect another cracker jacker of a game and we predict the total match score to be over 389 runs.
Chasing under lights is usually the favourable option at Wankhede, and both teams are likely to look to field first here.
This one’s going to come down to which team gets more out of their batting lineup. Sunrisers Hyderabad have the most explosive batting order on paper and will be licking their lips at the thought of batting at Wankhede. But as IPL 2025 has shown us, they’ve also thrown it away with careless shots and sudden collapses. That said, when it clicks—as it did in their last outing—they can tear apart any attack in these batting-friendly conditions. Mumbai, though, have Bumrah and Boult in rhythm, which makes things tricky for SRH. MI’s bowlers look sharp, and their batters are starting to step up too. Add in the home crowd and the confidence from their last win, and Mumbai look slightly ahead. But if SRH’s top order goes hard and connects, they'll be in with a good shot. If not, expect Mumbai to close it out.
Mumbai Indians are our picks for the winners of this match.
