Melbourne Renegades will host Adelaide Strikers in the 54th game of the BBL at Docklands Stadium, Melbourne. The game is scheduled to take place on 24th January from 1:45 pm IST. This will be the final group stage game for both teams, with their fate to qualify for the semi-final on the line. While the Renegades have lost their last two games, the Strikers haven’t seen a victory in their last four.

The Renegades’ bowlers were shown a mirror by the Scorchers' top order at home. Cameron Bancroft’s 95* off 50 and Stevie Eskinazi’s 54 off 29 were enough to get past the 200-digit figure. Chasing 213, Renegades’ veterans Shaun Marsh (54) and Aaron Finch (76*) scored half-centuries but couldn’t rescue their team from the defeat. The 10-run loss against the Scorchers kept the Renegades on the brink of elimination.

Adelaide Strikers suffered a massive defeat at the hands of the Perth Scorchers. Batting first, the Strikers were bowled out at 92 after a poor display from the top order. Only three Strikers batters, including Adam Hose (30 off 23), managed to register a double-digit score. Perth Scorchers chased the target in the 12th over with 7 wickets in hand. The fourth consecutive defeat sent Strikers into the sixth position with 10 points and a match to spare.

Adelaide Strikers hosted Melbourne Renegades at home on 10th Jan. Strikers scored 202 runs for the loss of 4 wickets after a fifty from Chris Lynn (69*) and some fireworks at the end by Colin de Grandhomme. Renegades top order batter Sam Harper scored a half-century in return. Matthew Critchley and Will Sutherland added 64 runs in the last 33 deliveries yet fell short of the target by 20 runs. Surprisingly, this was the Strikers’ last win of this season.

It is a must-win game for both teams to progress into the semi-finals. A win over here will help Renegades play the eliminator. But a loss by a huge margin will take the Strikers into the eliminator by knocking Renegades out of the tournament.

Melbourne Renegades Preview

Renegades’ veterans Shaun Marsh and Aaron Finch will be their final hope to qualify for the next stage. Marsh, who returned from an injury, scored 54 against the Scorchers in 34 deliveries. With the half-century, Marsh has 149 runs in the series at a strike rate of 121.13. Aaron Finch, who remained unbeaten on 76 in the last game, is currently the sixth leading run-scorer with 355 runs at a strike rate of 123.69.

Wicket Keeper Sam Harper couldn’t make it big in the last two games. But his three half-centuries in the last five games make him our choice for the top batter in the innings. Harper has 241 runs at a strike rate of 148.76. We addressed Will Sutherland’s importance in higher order in the last prediction. Despite him having the highest strike rate, Renegades opted to send Critchley, who scored just 2 runs in 5 balls. On the other hand, Sutherland, who came at sixth, hit 30 runs in 18 deliveries. We hope Renegades don’t repeat the mistake this time.

Tom Rogers will lead the bowling unit. Rogers is the third leading wicket-taker of the season with 20 wickets at an economy of 8.66. Corey Rocchiccioli and Matthew Critchley took 2 wickets each against the Scorchers. With both Akeal Hossain and Mujeeb ur Rehman unavailable, Corey Rocchiccioli will have a tough task of restricting the Strikers with his off-break.

Key Players: Sam Harper, Tom Rogers, Will Sutherland.

Melbourne Renegades Predicted Playing XI:

Shaun Marsh, Martin Guptill, Sam Harper (wk), Aaron Finch (c), Matthew Critchley, Jonathan Wells, Will Sutherland, Jack Prestwidge, Tom Rogers, Corey Rocchiccioli, David Moody

Melbourne Renegades Actual Playing XI:

Aaron Finch, Kane Richardson, Martin Guptill, Matt Critchley, Sam Harper, Shaun Marsh, Jonathan Wells, Fawad Ahmed, Thomas Rogers, Corey Rocchiccioli, Will Sutherland

Adelaide Strikers Preview

Despite having your team's leading run-scorer of the season, if it is not yet qualified, it means something is wrong. And the Strikers haven’t yet recognized those mistakes. Hopefully, they finish the season on a winning note. Matthew Short will open the innings with Travis Head. Short has 458 runs at a strike rate of 145.85. The all-rounder also has 10 wickets with the ball at an economy of 6.99. He is our choice for the top batter.

Alex Carrey, Adam Hose, and Colin de Grandhomme will be in the middle. Carrey, who has played just three games this season, scoring 57 runs at a strike rate of 132.55, will need to use his international experience to come over the top. De Grandhomme, who has 224 runs at a strike rate of 139.13, will most likely play the role of an anchor if the top order collapses.

Wes Agar and Henry Thronton will lead the bowling attack for the Strikers. Agar is their leading wicket-taker with 17 wickets but is bleeding runs at an economy of 9.51. Thronton also has 16 wickets. But again, the problem lies with the economy of 8.59. Except for Short, none of the Strikers’ bowlers have managed to restrict batters from scoring the runs freely.

Key Players: Alex Carey, Matthew Short, Wes Agar

Adelaide Strikers Predicted Playing XI:

Matthew Short, Travis Head (c), Alex Carey (wk), Adam Hose, Colin de Grandhomme, Thomas Kelly, Harry Nielsen, Ben Manenti, Cameron Boyce, Wes Agar, Peter Siddle

Weather Conditions

The weather will be sunny. The temperature will range between 15 and 30°C. The wind will be flowing from the west at 10-15 kmh. The pitch is considered good for batting in the second innings. For pacers, it offers a high bounce and swings at earlier stages.

Venue Details

The 54th T20 will be held at Docklands Stadium, Melbourne, on 24th January from 1:45 pm IST. The venue holds a capacity of 48000 spectators and has hosted 12 ODIs, and four BBL games this season so far. 175 is the highest score at the Docklands Stadium this season.

Toss: To Bowl

In the 12 ODIs played, the results have favored the team defending the target 8 times. but both games played this season have been won by the team chasing the target. Even the bigger picture shows 7 wins out of the 10 for the team batting second.  three out of four games held here this season have preferred the result in favor of the team batting second. The team winning the toss should bowl first.

It will be a tough game, with both teams having their last chance to make it to the semi-final. Though both teams have lost their last games, Adelaide Strikers are on low confidence.

Though the Strikers have won three out of the last five games against the Renegades, it is a home game for the Renegades. They have three wins in the four games at Docklands Stadium. Despite losing against the Scorchers, they managed to pull 202 runs against the best bowling unit of the tournament.

We predict that Melbourne Renegades will defeat Adelaide Strikers.
