Melbourne Renegades will be playing Perth Scorchers at the Docklands Stadium in Melbourne. The hosts will be confident after their recent win and will back themselves to put struggling Scorchers under pressure.
Perth Scorchers will be livid after failing to finish the innings on a high in their last match. With skipper Ashton Turner and wicket-keeper bat Matthew Hurst on the crease, Scorchers scored just 23 runs in the last 25 balls of their innings and lost 2 wickets.
Melbourne’s Jake Fraser-McGurk is a key batsman to watch out for. He looked in great touch in the opening game and is a big-hitting opening batsman who can get the Renegades off to a flier.
PRS have plenty of reliable batters in the top four, including Finn Allen and Josh Inglis, and the skipper will expect a quick comeback from his batters. It is not a high-scoring venue with 178 runs being the highest score successfully chased in recent years.

Melbourne Renegades bounced back strongly after a loss in their opening match of the season. Tim Seifert was much better with the bat in the second outing, with an improved strike rate at number 3. Another overseas player known for his big-hitting abilities, Laurie Evans, will be expected to find his rhythm in the lower middle order and step up as a finisher for the Renegades.
The 21-year-old batting all-rounder Jacob Bethell is a solid number 4. Though he didn’t get going after replacing Mackenzie Harvey in the last match, he is a very promising player and we expect him to find his rhythm soon.
Most of all, the opening batsman Jake Fraser-McGurk made headlines in the IPL 2024, scoring 330 in 9 outings at a strike rate of 234 for the Delhi franchise. He is a key batsman to watch out for at the top. There are many all-rounders in the lower order, including the skipper Will Sutherland, who’s been quite impressive with the ball, picking up 5 wickets in two games.
Tom Rogers, Kane Richardson, and Adam Zampa are other key wicket-takers in this squad. There is plenty of experience in this bowling attack, and we expect the Renegades to gain the upper hand when they come out to bowl.
Siefert started his BBL campaign smashing 55 runs against the Sydney Sixers and in the last game against the Hurricanes he scored 37 runs. He hasn't been troubled by the express pace or swing and has a strike rate close to 150. Given his current form, we back Siefert to score over 21.5 runs in today's match.

Perth Scorchers need to address their batting concerns before coming to Melbourne. Plenty of promising batters are on the side, including some reliable match-finishers in the lower middle order. However, Turner and Hurst's failure to deliver a good finish in the last match while batting first has raised some questions. Nonetheless, it is still early in the Big Bash League, and we can expect a comeback from the skipper.
Josh Inglis looked great at number 4 in the last match. He missed out on his fifty by a single run after being run out. In the top order, Finn Allen and Keaton Jennings bring experience to this batting lineup.
Jennings has played many games in the English domestic circuit and is a well-rounded player. Number 3 batter Cooper Connolly made a mark for himself with a 64-run knock in the opening game. The Scorchers need consistent partnerships to help carry the momentum through their innings.
In the bowling department, Jhye Richardson and Jason Behrendorff will be the key players to watch out for. The two pacers and Ashton Agar were brilliant with the ball in the opening game but struggled badly to defend 155 runs in the second match. Again, it was a matter of momentum, which the Scorchers lost after a poor finish to their innings while batting first.
The wicket-keeper batter smashed 49 runs in the last game against the Hurricanes. At the Docklands Stadium, Inglis averages 30.8 runs per game and has a very good record against the Renegades where he has amassed 298 runs in 11 matches. We back him to have an impactful knock with the bat and score over 20.5 runs against the Renegades.

There will be showers in Melbourne on the match day with a high of 17
degrees Celsius. The weather forecast looks bad for the entire day
including the scheduled match time. We won’t be surprised if this game
is abandoned without a ball being bowled.
The Perth Scorchers and Melbourne Renegades have won 10 coin tosses apiece in the BBL so far, for this game we are backing the home team Melbourne Renegades to win the coin toss.
The surface at Docklands Stadium is a balanced one favouring both the batters & bowlers. Last season the average total match score was 312.75 runs. The last time the Scorchers and Renegades played at this venue the total score was 311 runs. We predict another moderate scoring game and the total match score to be under 321.5 runs.
Teams bowling first have won 8 of the last 10 BBL matches played at this venue. On two of these 8 occasions, the team successfully chased a 170+ total while 4 games saw a 160+ target being chased down comfortably. Both teams have more than one reason to bowl first considering their recent performances along with the venue stats.
While the weather forecast is quite disappointing, if, by some miracle, we have a T20 match between these two sides, the visitors would have the upper hand. Considering their squad strengths and current form, the two sides have no clear winner. The toss will play a significant role in this match, and the bowling team should have the edge. The Scorchers have a solid batting lineup with reliable, experienced players in key positions. PRS will start as favourites in our match prediction.
