It is the 30th and the last league game of the Pakistan Super League 2021 and the Multan Sultans would face the Lahore Qalandars. The Multan Sultans have looked in good form in the last few games and come here with a massive win against the Lahore Qalandars but will face a daunting challenge against Islamabad United who defeated the Peshawar Zalmi in the last game.  

Both the sides have won the last four games in a row and they look in tremendous form at the moment and this will make this game all the more interesting. Multan Sultans would be happy to have made it to the next round but given the kind of performances we have seen from the two teams we expect this contest to go down the wire.

Mohammad Rizwan’s side has earned its place in the playoffs winning their last game against the Lahore Qalandars by 80 runs. With four wins in a row the side has turned it around after their poor start in the season. They face a huge challenge against the table toppers and Rizwan would want to win this game and carry the momentum into the next round.  

Mohammad Rizwan and Shan Masood missed out in the last game and they would look for a good show here. Sohaib Maqsood comes here after a brilliant knock and has Rilee Rossouw and Johnson Charles to give him company in the middle order. The side would be expecting good hitting from Khushdil Shah and Sohail Tanvir down the order. 

Imran Khan and Sohail Tanvir will have to come up with a good show given the batting show Islamabad United put in the last game. Shahnawaz Dhani has impressed in the last few games and along with Imran Tahir and Blessing Muzarabani makes this attack look very strong at the moment.

Islamabad United Preview

Shadab Khan who missed the last game is likely to return as skipper and he would be proud of the efforts of his side since the league resumed in Abu Dhabi. His side has won the last four games and come here after a 15-run win against Peshawar Zalmi. They are sitting at the top of the points table and shall look to end the league phase on a high winning this game before the playoffs. 

Batting wise the side is in excellent form especially opener Usman Khawaja who scored a hundred in the last game. He would look to provide another solid start with Colin Munro. The side has a strong middle order with Brandon King, Asif Ali and Shadab Khan brining in their hitting abilities. They would also expect runs from Hussain Talat and Muhammad Akhlaq down the order. 

Their bowlers didn’t look in the best form in the last game and the side would expect a good start here from Akif Javed and Hasan Ali. Zafar Gohar, Fawad Ahmed and Talat were expensive in the last game and they will need to bowl tighter lines here. The return of Shadab Khan would strengthen their bowling.

The skies would be clear over Abu Dhabi on June 19 and we shall see the typical hot and humid conditions. The wicket here has become flatter with nothing for the fast bowlers. The side that bats first in this game would need to score minimum 180 runs here to feel safe. 

Venue Details

Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi is one of the largest grounds in UAE but has an ultra-quick outfield. Batsmen can score runs here at will and the fast bowlers find this track very challenging to bowl on. There is some turn on offer and spinners do well at this venue.

Toss: To Bowl

The track has been a good one at this venue so far and we have seen sides put up big scores on the board. The track hasn’t changed its character much in the second innings and which makes it difficult to set up a total. Hence the side that wins the toss would have little hesitation in bowling first on this surface.
