Netherlands is set to play the final ODI of the three-match ODI series against England at VRA Cricket Ground, Amstelveen on June 22nd from 2:30 pm. England beat the hosts by 6 wickets and 13.5 overs in hand in the second ODI to win the series 2-0.

Learning from the mistakes of the 1st ODI, the Netherlands won the toss and elected to bat first in the second ODI. The decision faced a hurdle as they lost 3 wickets for 36 runs in the first 10 overs. Skipper Scott Edwards put a partnership of 71 runs with Bas de Leede to take the score to 97. Matured innings from Teja Nidamanuru (28) and Logan van Beek (30) helped the Dutch side to set a target of 236. England openers Jason Roy and Philip Salt started the innings with 139 runs in 17 overs. The chase faced a minor hurdle when England lost 3 wickets in the interval of 9 runs. Dawid Malan (36) and Moeen Ali (42) defended the wickets to reach the target in 36.1 overs.

The consecutive loss saw England win the series 2-0. This was England’s first bilateral series win against the Netherlands. In the first ODI England scored a world record 498 runs with centuries from Philip Salt, Joss Butler, and Dawid Malan. The Netherlands side have now lost all 5 ODIs against England. It will be an easy task for England to walk into the third ODI and take the series 3-0.

Netherlands Preview

The Netherlands side must have taken lots of positives from their first bilateral series against England. But they are yet to show a sign of some resilience against the world number 2 team England. Persistent back trouble forced long-time skipper Pieter Seelar into retirement before the second ODI. This means Scott Edwards will take the lead for the remaining game. Vikramjeet Singh and Max O’Dowd will open the innings. The leading run-scorer of the West Indies series - O’Dowd scored  55 runs in the first ODI with 6 fours and 2 sixes. Netherland will have high hopes for him as Singh has scored just 23 runs in the first 2 ODIs. Tom Cooper now being the most experienced player in the squad will play the role of the anchor in the third place. Cooper has 40 runs in 2 ODIs.

The Netherlands middle-order has worked really hard in both matches.  Wicket Keeper and now skipper Scott Edwards is the stand-out player from the Netherlands squad. Edwards scored 72 runs off 56 balls in the first ODI followed by well-calculated innings of 78 runs off 73 balls in the second. No doubt, he will be the player to watch out for in the third ODI. Right-handed batter Bas de Leede played knocks of 28 and 34 so far. Teja Nidmanuru and Logan van Beek added 58 runs collectively to the score in the second ODI. But van Beek has been below average with the ball. He has just 1 wicket for 108 runs at an economy of 6.75.

The Netherlands might experiment with the bowling unit as they have taken only 8 wickets so far. Fred Klassen can come in for Shane Snater. He has 25 wickets in 13 ODIs for the Netherlands. Besides this, he was Kent’s second-leading wicket-taker (19 wickets) when they won the Vitality Blast in 2021. Spinner Aryan Dutt took 2 wickets for 55 in the second ODI.

Key Players: Max O’Dowd, Scott Edwards, Logan van Beek.

Netherlands Predicted Playing XI:

Scott Edwards (C), Fred Klaassen, Logan van Beek, Tom Cooper, Teja Nidamanuru, Bas de Leede, Tim Pringle, Max O’Dowd, Vikramjit Singh, Aryan Dutt, Vivian Kingma.

England Preview

England skipper might look to bring the untested bench in the playing 11 as the series fate has already been decided. Jason Roy and Philip Salt will keep opening the innings. Roy scored 73 off 60 balls in the second innings after the failure in the first. On the other hand, Salt scored 77 off 54 balls to become the leading run-scorer of the series. He has scored 199 runs in this series with a century and a half-century. Just like Salt, the Netherlands side doesn’t have a solution for Dawid Malan. The left-handed batter has 161 runs in this series including a century and an unbeaten knock of 36 in the second match.

Morgan promoted himself over Jos Butler in the fourth place. Instead of scoring the winning runs, he came back with another duck. It will be better to send Jos Buttler in at the fourth place after his 70 balls 162 runs innings in the first match. Livingstone and Moeen Ali will complete the English middle-order. Livingstone scored 66 off 22 balls in the first ODI but added just 4 runs in the second.

England’s spin duo - Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali have taken 4 wickets in 33 overs. One of them might lose their place to Sam Curran or Luke Wood in the final ODI. David Willey, Reece Topley, and Bydon Carse will lead the pace attack for England. Willey is the leading wicket-taker of the series with 4 wickets. Reece Topley can be left out on the bench after he came wicketless in the second ODI. This can see the Gloucestershire pacer David Payne make his debut for the three lions.

Key Players: Jason Roy, Dawid Malan, Philip Salt.

England Predicted Playing XI:

Eoin Morgan (c), Moeen Ali, Jos Buttler, Brydon Carse, Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Jason Roy, Phil Salt, David Willey.

After a thumping 232 runs victory in the first game, England now beat the hosts by 6 wickets in the second. They have kept their ODI record clean against the Netherlands side. It’s 5-0! And most certainly will be 6-0 after the final game of the series.

We predict that England will defeat the Netherlands.
