It is the 1st Qualifier of the Tamil Nadu Premier League 2022, and we expect an epic clash between Nellai Royal Kings and the Chepauk Super Gillies. The Royal Kings who topped the points table lost the last game against the Lyca Kovai King. The Chepauk Super Gillies defeated the IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans, their fifth consecutive win of the tournament.  

The league game between the two sides had ended in a tie with the Nellai Royal Kings winning it in the Super Over. Both teams have shared a fierce rivalry between them in the last five seasons and we expect it to continue here. Baba Indrajith’s side has enjoyed a wonderful run in the tournament. The side comes here with a 5-run loss against the Lyca Kovai Kings, their first loss of the season. Indrajith would like to treat this loss as an aberration as his side has won by big margins in other games. He would expect his players to play their natural game and book a berth in the final with a win.  

Laxmesha Suryaprakash has scored runs this year and he would look to set up a good opening wicket stand with Sri Neranjan. Their middle order is power-packed, and the trio of Baba Aparajith, Sanjay Yadav, and Indrajith would be confident as they have also scored runs in previous games. G Ajitesh, M Rooban Raj, and M Shajahan shall aim to do the heavy lifting in the final overs of the game.  

Their bowlers were expensive in the last game and the side would need a good start from V Athisayaraj Davidson and K Easwaran. Sanjay Yadav and Aparajith are experienced bowlers, and they have an important role in this contest. They have variety in the attack and the side would like to get good performances from M Shajahan, NS Harish, and Sri Neranjan in this game.

Chepauk Super Gillies Preview

Kaushik Gandhi’s side is riding great form. They have won the last five games they have played. It was a brilliant show from their bowlers in the last game as they defended a low score and yet won by 60 runs against the IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans. As they take on the strongest side in the tournament, Gandhi would like his players to bet at their best.  

N Jagadeesan and Kaushik Gandhi missed out in the last game, but they have played well at the top. A good start from them would put the side in a commanding position. Rajagopal Sathish, Sai Kishore, and S Radhakrishnan would look to build partnerships and put the side in a safe zone. Sonu Yadav, Uthirasamy Sasidev, and Harish Kumar add to the side’s batting strengths.  

It was a brilliant spell of bowling by Manimaran Siddharth and Sandeep Warrier that helped the side to win in the last game and they would aim for a similar performance. Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore’s four wickets would make him confident. R Alexander and Sonu Yadav shall need to bowl well in the supporting role as the Royal Kings have a very strong batting line-up.

Weather Conditions

We expect to see rains in Salem on July 28, and this would make the batting conditions tough. The wicket has been tricky as the ball hasn’t come onto the bat.  Spinners would enjoy the conditions and so would the fast bowlers under overcast conditions. The side batting first would be happy with 170 on the scoreboard. 

Venue Details

SCF Cricket Ground, Salem is a small ground with short boundaries. The wicket has been two-paced and this has created doubts in the minds of batsmen. Fast bowlers do well under overcast conditions at this venue. Spinners have enjoyed bowling as the ball can turn sharply on this track.

Toss: To Bowl

It will be a close contest and we have seen most of the sides winning games chasing scores. The wicket isn’t great for batting as the ball tends to stop on the batsmen. Thus, the side winning the toss shall have little hesitation in opting to bowl first and aim at restricting the opponents to a small total.
