The last time India won an ODI against New Zealand at this venue was in 2009. Since then, New Zealand have defeated India in all of the 3 ODI matches played at this ground.
The hosts definitely have the home advantage. And with a less experienced bowling attack, India will be on the back foot in this format. The young guns could give the Kiwis a tough time in T20Is but here, it’s a different ball game altogether.
Shardul Thakur who’s known for his ability to deliver a breakthrough when the captain brings him back into the attack went for 25 runs in a single Over.
It was from that point on, Tom Latham switched gears and he and Williamson flew away with the game. Indian batters didn’t do much wrong and it was a very good total as Williamson admitted himself.
India will be again on a batting-friendly pitch. While the batters are likely to continue enjoying these conditions, the bowlers will have a real challenge on their hands, especially if they are defending a total.
The Blackcaps will have the momentum and the confidence after a clinical win in the 1st ODI at Eden Park. It was a much-needed partnership from Williamson and Tom Latham not only from the match point of view but also to boost their hopes going ahead.
Other batters in the side will need to step up and carry some of the scoring responsibilities. The likes of Conway and Daryl Mitchell can be expected to play a longer inning and build partnerships.
Both of them were dismissed by Indian pacer Umran Malik. New Zealand would keep an eye out for the new pace gun. Latham’s scores in his last 3 innings at this ground are 23, 140, and 69 respectively. The hundred came against the Netherlands while the fifty was against India.
The NZ squad has changed a lot since their last ODI series at home. It will be interesting to see how Glenn Phillips fits into this lineup. In case New Zealand loses 4 wickets within 20 Overs, can Phillips stay long enough to finish the game for his side?
He definitely has the ability for a big knock. He showed his skills against Sri Lanka in the T20 World Cup where he paced his innings as the situation demanded.
Southee and Ferguson will lead the pace attack and can be expected to pick the most wickets. Though Santner may not have found much success in the last game, he is crucial to this NZ bowling attack.
The left-arm orthodox bowler can slow the flow of runs and build pressure to allow the bowlers from the other end to capitalize.

It was always going to be an uphill battle defending a total at Eden Park, Auckland. It is a small ground with a drop-in pitch that is great for batting.
The pacers can enjoy only as long as the ball is new. As the match progressed, it was always the batsmen’s game. Something similar can be expected of Seddon Park and India need a plan.
The toss isn’t something they control and if they lose and are put to bat first, Dhawan and Gill need to get another big partnership.
With Iyer also in the middle order, India should be aiming for a 320+ 1st innings score if they bat first. In his last ODI at this venue, Iyer scored a hundred taking India to 347 runs total batting first. There is Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson in the lower middle order.
These two can push the run rate while Sundar can ensure a good finish in the death overs. India have a well-balanced batting order. However, Rishabh Pant seems to be struggling to find his rhythm.
The wicket-keeper batsman has a crucial job of batting at number 4. With such a star-studded lineup, there will be someone or the other who will take India to a competitive total or lead the run chase.
What India need at this point is a bowling plan. Arshdeep Singh and Umran Malik can do wonders with the new ball. Playing two spinners has always worked for India and has been their approach for quite a long time. If the ball doesn’t turn, it would backfire to have two spin bowlers in the side.
Shikhar Dhawan (c), Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant (wk), Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal

The pitch is batting-friendly and there can be some grass on the surface which could help the seam bowlers get movement off the pitch. A thunderstorm is expected on the match day with a high of 15 degrees Celsius. Rain could play spoilsport.
Seddon Park in Hamilton is the venue for the 2nd ODI of the series. The square boundaries at this ground are shorter and the outfield is quick. The average 1st innings score at this venue is 248 runs. However, anything below 275 cannot be a match-winning total at this ground.
Defending at this ground is not easy and teams batting second have managed to chase down 300+ totals. Only teams like the Netherlands struggled and failed to chase here. Both India and New Zealand have strong batting lineups and would prefer to bowl first.
New Zealand will come to this match with confidence and momentum from their recent win. Since there is not much difference in the pitch conditions, we expect India to continue their batting form. The visitors have the potential to chase down a total given their batting depth. Toss will play a key role if the rain doesn’t have its say first. The weather could help the swing bowlers in the early overs. It will be an exciting contest with New Zealand starting as the favourite in our match prediction.
Our prediction is for New Zealand to win the match
