Tournament: Sri Lanka tour of New Zealand 2018/19 | Format: ODI | Venue: Saxton Oval, Nelson | Toss: To Bat
Bet NowAfter losing the Test Series 1-0, New Zealand have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three match ODI series. New Zealand team would be pleased with their performance in the ODI series. They would look to give chance to players who missed out in the first two matches. New Zealand`s Top order batsmen Martin Guptill, Colin Munro , Skipper Williamson and Ross Taylor have scored runs and are in good form, which is great sign for New Zealand for the lead up to the World cup 2019. James Neesham has been their X-factor who has performed exceptionally with the bat and ball. Henry Nicholls and Tim Seifert has scored quick runs towards the end of the innings. On the bowling front, Trent Boult, Matt Henry and Lockie Ferguson has done well to restrict the run flow. Ish Sodhi has been the pick of the bowlers this series for New Zealand.
Sri Lanka team`s worries keep on piling and they are yet to win a match in New Zealand. They would like to win this match and gain some confidence before their next assignment. Lasith Malinga does not seem to be solution to the Sri Lankan team`s captaincy woes. Their top three batsmen Kusal Perera, Niroshan Dickwella and Danushka Gunathilaka have contributed to the team`s runs and have no support from the middle order combination of Kusal Mendis, Dinesh Chandimal and Asela Gunaratne. Thisara Perera played his best knock of career by scoring 140 runs in 74 balls, but seems to struggle with the ball in hand. Bowling has been the biggest worry for Sri Lanka and they have left more than 300 runs in both the matches. Pacers Nuwan Pradeep and Thisara Perera, Spinners Prasanna and Sandakan have leaked runs heavily. Malinga fared better in second ODI, but is still not upto his standards.
Key Players:
Colin Munro – The stylish left hander has known to play some scintillating strokes. He missed out on a century after a mix up running between the wickets.
James Neesham – Neeshan has been the difference between the sides with hard hitting at the end of the match and his controlled bowling.
Ish Sodhi – Sodhi has been the best bowler in the series so far, he has turned the match in the middle overs for New Zealand.
Stats from the Series:
Martin Guptill - 151 runs, Average – 75.5, Strike rate -98, HS - 138
James Neesham – 111 runs Average – 111, Strike rate -222, HS – 64 & 5 wickets at an economy of 5.7(BB -3/38)
Kane Williamson (C), Ross Taylor, Martin Guptill, Colin Munro, Henry Nicholls, Tim Seifert (Wk), Trent Boult/Doug Bracewell, Ish Sodhi, James Neesham, Lockie Ferguson/Tim Southee, Matt Henry
Pacers Doug Bracewell and Lockie Ferguon may get a go in the playing XI. Boult and Southee might be rested owing to their bowling Workload. No other changes are expected in the playing XI.
Key Players:
Thisara Perera – Perera had a fantastic last year and has a good start this year with the bat with his career best 140. He should improve his bowling to aid the team`s cause.
Danushka Gunathilaka – Gunathilaka has been amongst the runs in both the matches. He would be looking for the elusive three figure mark with the bat.
Lakshan Sandakan – Chiman bowler has been giving away runs at nearly 6 RPO, which is fine considering the nature of the pitches and high scoring totals. But, he is yet to take a wicket this series and would be itching to get wickets.
Stats from the Series:
Thisara Perera - 144 runs, Average – 72, Strike rate -182, HS - 140
Lasith Malinga - 4 wickets at an economy of 6.2 (BB -2/45)
Kane Williamson (C), Ross Taylor, Martin Guptill, Colin Munro, Henry Nicholls, Tim Seifert (Wk), Trent Boult/Doug Bracewell, Ish Sodhi, James Neesham, Lockie Ferguson/Tim Southee, Matt Henry
Samawickrama and De Silva may slot in the middle order at the expense of Chandimal and Gunaratne. Chameera may get the nod ahead of Nuwan Pradeep.
The match is scheduled to start at local time 11.00 AM local time. Saxton Oval has been traditionally offered assistance to both the batsman and bowlers. We can expect more balance between the bat and ball. Scores in the range of 280-300 runs can be achieved. Any score above 320 is considered par.
WIN the toss, BAT First
Teams batting first has won 7 out of 10 matches and lost only twice. And New Zealand have won both matches batting first. So we can expect the trend to continue and both teams will look to bat first.
