Cricket is finally back into the New Zealand soil after 271 days with their last international game being played against on March 1. Their last cricket match too took place before 250 days against Trans-Tasman rivals Australia. West Indies arrived in the New Zealand soil and were found ignoring the strict protocols and they were allowed to train after an extended quarantine period. New Zealand on the other hand will miss the services of regular Skipper Williamson and injury concerns for Tim Southee, Neil Wagner, Matt Henry, and Colin De GrandHomme. Tim Southee will lead the team in the T20I series. Ross Taylor, Martin Guptill, Tim Seifert, and Jimmy Neesham will form the core of their batting line-up alongside new comers Devon Conway, Mark Chapman, and Glenn Philips. They have a good depth in their batting line-up with all-rounders Daryl Mitchell and Mitchell Santner in the lower order.

Tim Southee and Lockie Ferguson will be needed to lead their bowling in the pace department. Doug Bracewell, Hamish Bennett, and Kyle Jamieson will add variety to the pace attack and look to support their premier bowlers. Ish Sodhi and Mitchell Santner will take care of the pin department in the XI.

Ross Taylor – Ross Taylor was the first New Zealand batsmen to play 100 t20I matches and he has scored over 1500+ runs in this format. He will need to take responsibility in the batting department owing to absence of Kane Williamson.

Mitchell Santner – Santner is one of much developed player in the kiwi ranks and he showcased abilities in the CPL and IPL matches played recently. We expect him to continue his good form in the T20Is too.

West Indies Preview

Brandon king and Andre Fletcher are expected to open the batting for the team. Presence of Kyle Mayers and Fabian Allen will further strengthen their batting depth.

Experienced trio of Kesrick Williams, Sheldon Cottrell, and Oshane Thomas will form the core of pace bowling department alongside young Romario Shepherd.  Kyle Mayers and Keemo Paul may bring their variations into play with their cutter and slower ones. Hayden Walsh and Fabian Allen are the only spinners in their squad.

Nicholas Pooran – Pooran had a superb IPL season and scored his fastest T20-fifty in just 17 balls. He will look to carry his good form in the T20I matches too.

Sheldon Cottrell – Cottrell had a mixed results in the T20 leagues and will look to make his mark with a good performance in this match. He is one of the top performers for West Indies in the last 2-3 years.
