The two sides have shared a close rivalry. The last four games between the two sides have seen each win twice. Otago plays at home, and the players know the conditions well, and they will look to take advantage of it. Auckland has an experienced team, and they will not make it easy for Auckland in this game.

Otago Volts Preview

Dean Foxcroft will lead the side this season. They did well last year to finish third on the points table but failed in the Qualifier game. The side has talented players who have gained experience and shall look to do well in their first game this season. They face strong opposition, and Foxcroft will look for a good show from his players.   

Max Chu and Hamish Rutherford must do well at the top and put up a solid partnership for others to build on. In the middle order, Dean Foxcroft will look to add runs with Dale Phillips and Ollie White. Jake Gibson and Jacob Duffy add to the batting strength in the lower middle order.  

Jacob Duffy is an experienced bowler who must strike early, sharing the new ball with Travis Muller. Matthew Bacon and Ben Lockrose need to bowl tight spells in the middle overs. The side would also need a good show in the supporting role from Foxcroft as the fifth bowler in the team.

Auckland Preview

Robert O'Donnell's side had a poor tournament in the last season. They won only three games and finished sixth on the points table. The powerhouse of New Zealand cricket has struggled in the past few years. Robert O'Donnell would like his side to start positively in this game.  

The side will look for a good start from Sean Solia and George Worker in this game, as they will face a strong bowling attack. They have a solid middle order and expect runs from William O'Donnell, Robert O'Donnell, and Finn Allen. Adithya Ashok and Cole Briggs must do well in the lower middle order, as this was a major problem for the side last season.  

On the bowling front, the side will expect good spells from     Danru Ferns and Ryan Harrison with the new ball. Adithya Ashok and Louis Delport must use the conditions and do well in the middle overs to put the side in a comfortable position. They will also need a good show from Matt Gibson and Sean Solia.

There are predictions for heavy rains in Invercargill on November 25. The track would be tricky to bat on and, more so, due to the weather, as the bowlers would find a lot of assistance from the surface. The side batting first would be happy to set up 280 runs or more on this track.

Venue Details

The pitch at Queen's Park, Invercargill, offers assistance to the bowlers and can be a challenging surface to bat on with the ball doing around a bit. Batsmen, however, are also at an advantage, with the shorter square boundaries offering good scoring opportunities. The conditions here suit the fast bowlers more than the spinners.

It will be the first game at this venue in a long time, and we shall see some juice in the surface early on that would help the bowlers. We have seen low scores at this venue in the past. Considering all these things, the side that wins the toss shall opt for bowling first here.
