Oval Invincibles will host London Spirit for the second game of The Hundred 2022 at Kennington Oval, London on 4th August. The game is scheduled to play from 11:00 pm. Oval Invincibles had a decent season last year with a top-four finish while London Spirit’s disastrous campaign ended with one win and at the final position of the points table.

Oval Invincibles opened their account with a 9 runs win over Manchester Originals in the inaugural Hundred last season. They ended up winning 4 games but failed to secure the spot for the qualifiers. Jason Roy lead the batting department with the most runs (186) whereas Tom Curran took 10 wickets to top the bowling chart.

London Spirit had a horrible experience as they lost their first four games. Three of them were very close (by 3 wickets, 7 runs, and 4 runs). Their only win came against Manchester Originals by 6 runs. Jos Inglish and Blake Cullen respectively led the batting and bowling unit for London Spirit.

Oval Invincibles hosted London Spirit last season at Kennington Oval. Batting first, London Spirit put a target of 147 runs. Skipper Eoin Morgan scored 40 off 20 balls. Oval Invincibles lost early wickets while chasing. But Laurie Evans scored an unbeaten knock of 67 off 37 balls to take the game by 2 wickets.

Oval Invincibles Preview

Jason Roy finished the last season for Oval Invincibles with 186 runs at a strike rate of 145.80. But his form has been woeful since the World Cup last year. He scored 45 runs in 3 games at a strike rate of 81.82 against South Africa. Hopefully, he replicates the last year’s heroics on the pitch. Will Jacks will be opening with Roy. Jacks scored 146 runs last season at a strike rate of 175.90.  Invincibles have added in-form SA batter Rilee Roussouw to their team. Roussouw scored 623 runs at a strike rate of 192 in the Blast followed by 131 runs in the 3-match T20I series against England at 170.13.

Invincibles’ middle order - Sam Billings, Jack Leaning, and Jordan Cox had an average season at the Blast. Skipper Billings scored 146 runs last season at 131.19. Invincibles will desperately need Hilton Cartwright to bolster the batting attack. Sam Curran and Sunil Narine might see regular promotions in the batting order. Narine scored 62 runs in the last year’s campaign at an average of 10.33. But his ball-hitting ability can not be ignored.

Reece Topley will be leading the Oval’s bowling unit with Tom Curran. Topley has taken 16 wickets in his last 6 international games. On the other hand, Tom Curran was the leading wickets taker for the Invincibles last season. Mohammad Hasnain can get a call if Cartwright doesn’t play.

Key Players: Rilee Roussouw, Reece Topley, Sam Billings

Oval Invincibles Predicted Playing XI:

Jason Roy, Will Jacks, Rilee Rossouw, Sam Billings, Jack Leaning, Hilton Cartwright, Jordan Cox, Sam Curran, Sunil Narine, Reece Topley, Tom Curran.

London Spirit Preview

London Spirit have changed most of their squad from the last year. Except for Jos Inglis, they have managed to keep the top order intact. Zack Crawley and Adam Rossington will open for the London Spirit. Crawley played Just two games last season scoring 64 at a strike rate of 160. Rossington scored 140 in 6 innings at a strike rate of 152.17.

Skipper Eoin Morgan who announced his retirement from international cricket will be happy to find Glenn Maxwell and Kieron Pollard as his partners in the middle-order. Morgan scored 151 runs last season at 136.03. The addition of Maxwell has given the all-rounder boost up to the Spirit side. Maxwell scored 301 runs in the IPL 2022 at 169.10. Though Kieron Pollard didn’t play most of the IPL, Spirit can use him with the ball too.

With Mark Wood and Riley Meredith pulled out, London Spirit have Nathan Ellis, Liam Dawson, Brad Wheal, and Mason Crane in their bowling attack. Wheal took 9 wickets last season at an economy of 1.2 per ball. He took 4 for 17 in London’s only win last season. He also had 22 wickets in 13 Vitality blast games this season.

Key Players: Adam Rossington, Glenn Maxwell, Nathan Ellis.
