It is the first game of The Hundred Women’s Competition 2021 and hosts Oval Invincibles Women would take on the Manchester Originals Women at Kennington Oval, London. Both the sides have roped in the best players from around the world and shall aim for a good start to the tournament.

Dane van Niekerk would lead the Invincibles Women in this tournament and the South African cricketer brings in vast experience to the table. She has several experienced players in her squad along with young and exciting prospects. It is the first game of the season and hence the skipper would like to see a positive show from her side. 

Marizanne Kapp is an experienced player, and she would look to provide the side with a good start alongside Georgia Adams. At No. 3 Dane van Niekerk adds stability to the middle order and shall look to make runs along with Fran Wilson and Jo Gardner who are known for being power hitters. Down the order the side would also expect runs from Grace Gibbs, Sarah Bryce and Alice Capsey. 

Shabnim Ismail would lead this bowling attack and be expected to strike early in this game along with Kapp. Natasha Farrant is known for her variety and her presence in the attack is a big plus for the side. They would also expect tight spells from the likes of Mady Villers, Capsey and van Niekerk in this game.

Kate Cross would lead the Originals and the side would benefit from the vast experience she brings to the game. It will be a tough competition as her opponents have a strong batting line-up. She will have to marshal her troops well in this contest and hope to get the first points of the season here.  

Lizelle Lee and Harmanpreet Kaur have wide range of strokes and they would look to provide the side with a positive start in the game. Mignon du Preez would have to hold the innings together in the middle overs and add to the score with Cordelia Griffith and Georgie Boyce. Natalie Brown, Emma Lamb and Eleanor Threlkeld have to play the finishers’ role well in this game. 

They have an excellent bowling attack with Cross and Sophie Ecclestone sharing the new ball. The duo would have to strike early in this game. Alexandra Hartley will have to keep the scoring rate under control and the likes of Harmanpreet Kaur, Brown and Boyce shall be aiming to play good supporting acts in this contest.

There are predictions for rains in London on July 21 and the skies would see thick cloud cover. Batters would have to play with caution as the ball is expected to move in the air and lead to false strokes.  The side batting first would have to eye a total of 160 runs. 

Venue Details

Kennington Oval, London is a batter’s ground and ball comes nicely onto the bat allowing batters to play their strokes freely on this surface. The shorter square boundaries also make is easy to score runs. Fast bowlers do get early movement and spinners can also turn the ball.

Toss: To Bowl

It is a new format and setting up a score here would be a challenge. The wicket here is good for batting and stays in good condition in the second innings as well. Hence the side that wins the toss here would like to invite the opposition to bat first and get them out for a small total.
