Defending Champions Oval Invincibles started off the tournament magnificently as they won the opener by 9 wickets, making a statement that they are here to defend their title. Oval Invincibles put on an all-around display winning the game by 9 wickets in the first game of the new season. While the first game was a walk in the park, the next game is where they will be tested the most, as it is against last season's finalist Southern Brave. The Oval Invincibles will want to repeat the result from the last year's final, and set the tone for the rest of the competition.

Southern brave, on the other hand, have also started on a winning note. In spite of being the most dominant team in the first season, losing in the final will be added motivation for the Southern Brave coming into this edition, and what better way to make a statement than beating the defending champions. The Southern Brave seem to have started right where they left off, making a difficult run chase look easy, winning it by 6 wickets and 6 balls to spare. It promises to be a mouth-watering contest as both teams have a point to prove and 2 important points at stake.

Oval Invincibles Women Preview

There is a reason that the Oval Invincibles were crowned as the inaugural champions of The Hundred, and they certainly showed why. Taking on Northern Superchargers, in the season opener they registered a resounding 9-wicket victory with 16 balls to spare. It would be an understatement to say the batting department came to the party, after registering a 9-wicket win. Lauren Winfield Hill scored an unbeaten 74 off 42 balls, which consisted of 11 fours and 1 six. Fellow opening partner, Suzie Bates missed out on a half-century by 4 runs, scoring 46 off 34 balls. Alice Capsey looked in a bit of a hurry to finish off the game as she scored a rapid 25 off 8 balls to finish off a fine game for the Invincibles.

The bowling department kept it tight for most of it and was fairly economical. Rayana Mcdonald Gay was the pick of the bowlers picking up the crucial wickets off Jemimah Rodriques and Laura Wolvaardt. As convincing as the performance was, they would like to improve on death bowling, going forward in the tournament.

Southern Brave Women Preview

Arguably last season's Table toppers and finalists, Southern Brave started off the tournament in fine fashion, beating London Spirit by 6 wickets. A difficult run chase was made look very comfortable, on the back of some fantastic batting display. Dani Wyatt was magnificent as she was the top scorer with an electrifying knock of 65 off 34 balls. The knock consisted of 12 fours and 2 sixes, with a strike rate of 191.17, completely blowing the opposition out of the game. She was well supported by Sophia Dunkley who scored 34 off 24 balls, and then Freya Kemp who finished off the game scoring 14 off 6 which included 2 sixes. 

The bowling took a bit of a hammering, courtesy of Beth Mooney of the London Spirit. However, Amanda Jade Wellington was outstanding, picking up 3 wickets and conceding just 30 runs off her allocation of 20 balls. Captain Anya Shrubsole was very economical conceding 17 runs off 15 balls. The Braves would be hoping for a good knock from in-form Smriti Mandhana.
