Oval Invincibles Preview

Sam Billings’ side went down against the Trent Rockets by 25 runs in the last game, their first loss in four games. They bowled poorly in the last game to allow their opponents to post a big total on the board. Billings would know the importance of this game as a win can assure them of a place in the Eliminator round. Playing at home they would press hard for a win.

Jason Roy has failed to convert his starts in this tournament, and he needs to set up a good opening wicket partnership with Will Jacks. Sam Curran, Billings, and Jordan Cox must add quick runs in the middle order. The side has dept in its batting and they would expect to see runs from Sunil Narine, Hilton Cartwright, and Tom Curran in the final stages of their innings.

Their bowlers would need to do a better job than what they did in the last game. Sam Curran and Reece Topley need to deliver good spells at the start of the game. Narine has done well, and the side would expect a good show from him. Mohammad Hasnain, Tom Curran, and Matt Milnes must bowl better lines as their opponents have a strong batting line-up.

Oval Invincibles Predicted Playing XI:

Birmingham Phoenix Preview

Moeen Ali’s side needs to put their loss in the last game behind. The side failed with the bat to suffer a 32-run loss against the Northern Superchargers. Their batsmen have been inconsistent in the last few games. Ali would look for a better show from his batsmen as it would be a tough challenge against the Invincibles on the latter’s home ground.

Will Smeed and Miles Hammond haven’t made runs in the last few games and the pair would need to deliver a good show here. Moeen Ali, Liam Livingstone, and Matthew Wade make this middle order strong, and they will need to score runs after failing in the last game. Chris Benjamin, Benny Howell, and Tom Helm can strike the ball hard and they must put their skills to good use here.

Moen Ali and Kane Richardson shall need to do well in this game as they would bowl to a formidable top order. Imran Tahir finally found his form in the last game which is good news for the team. The side would also expect to see good spells from Livingstone, Tom Helm, Henry Brooks, and Benny Howell in this game.

Weather Conditions

There are predictions for cloudy skies over London on August 23 and this is likely to make batting challenging on an otherwise flat surface. Batters would have to play with caution as the ball is expected to move in the air and lead to false strokes.  The side batting first would have to eye a total of 160 runs.

Venue Details

Kennington Oval, London is a batter’s ground, and the ball comes nicely onto the bat allowing batsmen to play their strokes freely on this surface. The shorter square boundaries also make it easy to score runs. Fast bowlers do get early movement and spinners can also turn the ball.

Toss: To Bowl

The last two games have seen the side chasing the score register easy wins at this venue. In this format of the game, we have always seen the sides chasing scores have an advantage. Hence the side that wins the toss here would like to invite the opposition to bat first and get them out for a small total.

Both sides must win this game to remain in the hunt for a place in the Eliminator round. Birmingham Phoenix batsmen and bowlers need to show more consistency which has been a problem for them. The Invincibles have their key players in good form, and they play on their home ground. This would make them favorites to win this game.
