It is the 2nd semifinal of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, and a confident Pakistani side would be taking on Australia. The Pakistanis come here with a massive win against Scotland and the side would look to drive the momentum forward and march into the final. Australia on the other hand ensured their place in the knockout game with a big win over West Indies in their last game.

Pakistan has been brilliant in the tournament and the side has won all five games in the group stages. They have dominated opponents in every game they have played. The side would also take heart from their excellent record against Australia in UAE. Australia has big stage players and it remains to be seen if the side can bring the Pakistani juggernaut to a halt here.

Pakistan Preview

Babar Azam couldn’t have asked for a better show from his side. They won all the five group games to top the points table and come here with a confidence-boosting 72-run win against Scotland. Their batting line-up has looked in great form and the bowling attack has also played complementary roles. Australia would be a tough side and Azam would want his side to play with the same energy and passion as they have done so far.

Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan have been in excellent form and the side would like to see an electrifying start from them. Fakhar Zaman hasn’t been in the best form, and he would be expected to do well in the middle order with Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez. The side bats deep with Asif Ali, Shadab Khan, and Imad Wasim having a good range of strokes, and this would boost their confidence.

Their bowlers have done a good job in this tournament and early strikes would be expected from Shaheen Afridi and Imad Wasim. Hasan Ali has been expensive, and he would have to bowl tight lines in the middle overs with Haris Rauf and Shadab Khan. The Pakistani spinners have made good use of the conditions and they would look to repeat the same against Australia.

Pakistan Predicted Playing XI:

Babar Azam (c), Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Hafeez, Shoaib Malik, Asif Ali, Shadab Khan, Imad Wasim, Hasan Ali, Haris Rauf, Shaheen Afridi

Australia Preview

Apart from their loss against England, Aaron Finch’s side has looked good in the tournament registering big wins. They defeated West Indies by 8 wickets in the last game to book their place in the semifinals. The Aussies haven’t had the best record against Pakistan in UAE and Finch would like to get over this poor record by winning this game.

Aaron Finch and David Warner have been in good form and the side would need a solid start from them in this game. Mitchell Marsh is doing well in the middle order, and he would look to set up partnerships with Glenn Maxwell and Steven Smith. Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade, and Pat Cummins have to play well in the finishers’ role in this tight contest.

Their bowling attack hasn’t been consistent at the start and the side would need tight spells and wickets from Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood. Pat Cummins too has leaked runs and will have to bowl economically in this game. The side would have high hopes on Marsh and Adam Zampa who have been the best bowlers for the side in this tournament.

Australia Predicted Playing XI:

Aaron Finch (c), David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Steven Smith, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade (wk), Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood

Weather Conditions

It would be a warm evening in Dubai on November 11 and batting conditions are expected to be perfect. Batsmen have scored runs easily on this surface in the last few games and we expect to see a flat track. Given the pressure on the two sides here the side batting first in the game would need 170 runs on the board to feel confident in this game.

Venue Details

Dubai International Cricket Stadium is the largest ground in UAE, but it offers excellent batting conditions with the flat surface and the fast outfield aiding the batsmen. Conditions here have been tough for fast bowlers with little margin for error. It has been a happy hunting ground for the spinners and they have done well here in the past.

Toss: To Bowl

Ten games have been played at this venue in this tournament and only once has a side won batting first. We have seen big scores being chased here easily as batting conditions are the best in the second innings. The side winning the toss here would have no hesitation in opting to bowl first.

It is a high-pressure contest and there is no room for second place. Australia has done well in most of the games and have their batting line-up in good form. But their bowlers haven’t been consistent, and this would be worrying the side. Pakistan on its part hasn’t put a wrong foot so far. They have their top order in sublime form, and this would make them favorites to win this game.
