Pakistan and England will face off in the first T20I of the seven-match series at the National Stadium in Karachi on Tuesday.

The fixture is a historic one as this will be the first time when the Three Lions will play an international fixture in the country after 17 years.

Both teams have faced off 21 times in the history of T20Is before where England have a clear advantage with 14 wins compared to just six victories of the Men-in-Green whereas one fixture ended without a result.

However, in the last five matches, the contests have been slightly closer where Pakistan won twice whereas England won three times.

Pakistan Preview

Pakistan will enter the contest as slight favourites, not because they have a good record against England but because they have an immaculate record while playing at the National Stadium where they’ve never lost a match and also because the visitors will be without their regular captain Jos Buttler and star all-rounder Ben Stokes.

Despite the favourites tag, the biggest concern for the management will be the form of captain Babar Azam who looked completely out of sort in the recently concluded Asia Cup which ended up costing the side as the Green Caps suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the final against Sri Lanka.

The management as well as the fans will be hoping that the right-hander will return to full fitness, sooner rather than later and start producing big runs as well.

There is going to be at least one change in the starting XI that played in the final of the Asia Cup as top-order batter Fakhar Zaman is not a part of the squad after suffering a knee injury.

In his place, left-handed batter Shan Masood is likely to be included and it will be interesting to see whether he will open the innings or play at one down.

The bowling attack is likely to still consist of pacers Naseem Shah, Mohammad Hasnain, Haris Rauf along with the spin duo of Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz.

Pakistan Predicted Playing XI:

Babar Azam (captain), Mohammad Rizwan, Shan Masood, Haider Ali, Asif Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Nawaz, Shadab Khan, Haris Rauf, Shahnawaz Dahani, Naseem Shah

England Preview

England will enter the contest as slight underdogs, largely because a lot of the players part of the squad have no experience of playing in Pakistan.

Therefore, it will be interesting to see how they will cope against a home team in front of a hostile crowd.

The team will combination will be an interesting one to see for the neutrals as one opening spot is likely to be grabbed by Alex Hales but it is not clear who will join him at the top as Jason Roy was dropped due to poor form, Jonny Bairstow has been ruled out because of an injury and captain Buttler is set to miss the first few games.

In terms of the bowling department, it will be interesting to see which three pacers the team management will decide to go with as there are plenty of options to choose from.

England Predicted Playing XI:

Jos Buttler (captain and wk), Alex Hales, Dawid Malan, Harry Brook, Phil Salt, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, David Willey, Adil Rashid, Reece Topley, Mark Wood/Luke Wood/Chris Woakes

Venue Details

National Cricket Stadium in Karachi is going to host the opening game of the T20I series between Pakistan and England.

Pakistan have managed to win all of their seven T20I matches played at Karachi.

Toss: To Bat

Both the teams will be keen to win the toss, bat first and post a competitive score on the board. The average first innings score at National Stadium, Karachi is around 190 to 195 runs.

Both teams look extremely good and balanced on paper which is why it is hard to predict an outright winner.

Looking at the overall composition of the teams, England look slightly better than Pakistan where the middle-order still remains a talking point.

Therefore, the prediction is for England to secure a win and go 1-0 up in the series.
